Default Addrine Rich as a radical feminist

Addrine Rich is a radical feministwith the vision of new world order.Feminism aims atconsciousness raising in women.this can be painful, yet pain is not in itself something to avoid at all times .There are two kinds of pain :destractive and construtive pain ;destructive pain is suffered in a no win situation .such pain is best avoided ,but constructive pain differs dramatically.we are hurt but we grow stronger.in words of Mary Daly:
"women have experienced life only through the patriarchal perspective on the boundries of patriarchal space"
[/C
OLOR]
But humanity needs bothh perspectives:woman and man ,integrated in order to view reality more correctly ,to see with greater enrichment and to transform consciousness.
Feminist theory was reflected and contributed to what Adderine Rich calls ''white solipsism
Rich believes that there should be no colour blindness:

''If look at black woman and see her as white ,i engage in white-solipsism to the utter erasure of her particular reality"
Man and woman must be allowed the right to become complete human being .It was Freud who said :
"women anatomy is destiny ".
this is the destiny of character like Aunt Jennifer, she has the strength of imagination to experience psychologically what she cannot experience physically.
There is hardly any anthology of feminist writings that does not contain her work or her ideas,a woman studies course that does not include her essays,or a poetry collection that does not include her poems .
Adderine Rich is author of nearly twenty volumes of poetry .she is also the author of several books of non fiction prose.in 1999 Rich received the Life time Achievement Award from Lannan Foundation .Her precious award include the Academy Fellowship ,the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize ,the National Book Award and a MacArther Fellowship ;she is also former Academy chancellor. In 1997 Rich was awarded the Academy Wallace Stevens Awardfor outstanding and proven mastry in the art of poetry .
Rich and her husband both were involved in movement for social justice ,it was to women's movement that Rich gave her strongest support.in its investigation of sexual politics ,its linkage as rich called it ,of Veitnam and The Lovers Bed ''.She located her base for issues of language ,sexuality, oppression and power that infused all the movement for liberation from male domonation world.
she was struggling with conflicts over the prescribed roles of womanhood verses those of artistry ,overtension between sexual and creative roles ,love and anger .
''Diving into The Wreck '' 1973demonstrates a gradual coming to power as Rich expresses her opposition to the male stranglehold of female mental landscape that result ultimately this struggle for empowerment and action ,the development of her determination to write directy and openly as a woman out of a woman's body and experience .in the poem ''Tear Gas'' she asserts:
''The wil to change begins in the body ,not in the mind .
My politics is in the body.''

yet this does not mean her poetry is confessional ,Rich's voice is the voice of witness ,oracle or mythologizer, who speak for the speakless, records for the forgetton_____the woman of the past ,the presant and the future .
Rich early poems hardly give any indication of feminist visionary of her later poems .however it can be said there is a kind of [U]double-voiced discourse [U]in the early poems containing a dominant and muted story ,for most woman writers up to the recent past ,that dominant story considers with main stream Patriarchal values ,where power for example is a male prerogrative and subservience, the prevailing mode of female behaviour.
the muted story followed a different course.
The dominant meaning the muted meaning are like vase and face with picture;sometimes you see the vase and sometimes you see the face.
this double voice discourse characterizes Rich early poems:the plots of these poems may present an orthodox vase, but the muted story emerges as the ''true'' face of the poet and it is this muted story which contains the seed of herfeminist vision .thus the youthful Rich emerges as ingenious strategist with her womanhood in a male dominated society .
''A Change of World'' deals in adouble discourse with issues of woman and power .

Adderine Rich as a radical feminist
Twenty four years after the publication of her book Rich writes
''Outside of mothers brief power over the child ,women have experienced power in two forms;both of them negative.the first is men's power over us wheather physical , institutional or economic.......like other dominant people.''
when power is linked with maleness ,woman's experience of it becomes negative;either she is the one upon whom the power is exercised ;or else, she is considered incapable of ''expressive energy''because she is not male.in many ways her first three books of poems;A Change of World '',''The Dimond Cutters'',''Snapshort of a Daughter in Law'',reflects women negative experience.the consequqnces of wich can be traced in the double voiced discourse.thus the basic quality of her early poetry is a tension between energy and restraint.
in ''A Change of Word '' the poem by the title ''An Unsaid Word ''gives an analysis of woman's negative experience of power; it contains the theme of denail ,evasion and disguise, this seven line poem concerns a ''good' woman who could get the attention of her man throughher power to seduce him .she chose not to do this:
She who has power to call her man .
From that estranged intensity
Where his mind forages alone,
Yet keeps her peace and leaves him free.

the poem emplies amount of sacrifice .the poem is a concrete lesson on the sexual polotics of 1950's.the speaker knows that woman could do but does not ;what the woman desires ,but denies.how had to maintain the self restraint ,necessary to keep a stable relationship with the man and she gives the woman all the credit .the muted voice can be heard from the title of the poem ''An Unsaid WORD'' and the first phrase :
''She who has powe''.

Rich another poem ''Aunt Jennifer's Tiger '' is a metaphor for the divided self, doubled voiced poem in which woman cannot own her power .the complex interation between the womwnly role and the role of woman as artist form the thematic nucleus in her early poetry .in the opening stanza of the poem tigers in the tapestary that aunt Jennifer has embroiders, are the focus .the tigers the the images of strength ,projected by woman .but anut Jennifer is portrayed as a timid victim.
