Diffrence b/w epigrams and aphorism?

Well this is a very confusing question ,really bothering my upper story .so please all seniors must answer it in a lucid way .

Are the literary terms 'epigram' and 'aphorism' synonymous with each other? If not, can someone explain to me the differences ...with reference to bacon essays ..
thanks .

Epigram is a pithy, striking and a satirical statement that can even hurt. It is often paradoxical.

Aphorism is a statement of truth, a thought, an adage, a saying, a brief statement of principle.
