I think huge number of people had IR. Paper 1 has syllabus which usually students cram and reproduce as it is in exams. So, examiner had given less weightage to same crammed stuff which was repeated in almost all papers.

Actually I was looking at the 2016 paper. Now that I have seen the 2017 paper, I have an idea what could have gone wrong. Three questions contain the words 'critically evaluate' while two ask for 'your opinion'. No chance for cram and reproduce fans!

I crammed nothing. Wrote my own thoughts based on what I'd read from various sources.

Result:

Paper 1- 27
Paper 2- 36

Can't figure out any rhyme or reason for this. Don't know what the examiners wanted to read?

Then let's see if we can get a better explanation for the low scores in the coming days.

Hard to believe people have got low scores just because the examiners wanted to slaughter everyone. There has to be a better reason.

Scoring trend. Scoring trend. Scoring trend!

Two things wrong with CSS:

1) Luck in Essay and Precis

2) Luck in Scoring trend

My friend, a graduate of KEMU, had 149 last year. He even had 67 in Paper 2 last year when everyone had marks in early 40s.

This year, he ended up getting 71. I know him. Thoroughly competent. Not a crammer. Equipped with excellent and analytical mind! He had 713 last year. Had 590 this year. Could not get the aggregate score.

May be examiner did not agree with your arguments and opinions.

Exactly no one can predict about trend. One thing has importance that if one subject is attempted by majority, one should try to perform exceptionally well to get good marks otherwise, in such competition average papers do not stand a chance.
