Political Science OR International Relations? (Well elaborated Analysis)
 

For the past few weeks, this question is very eminent in every CSS group whether to go for Political Science or Internation Relation. The intriguing thing is that People are also providing their hollow opinions in order to fill the void without any prior knowledge or experience. In fact, such people will let you even more bewildered because everyone is implementing their own interests upon you. If a person likes a subject, he will find various ways in order to find his peers. [COLOR="Red"]But the thing is that what should you do?[/COLOR]
As you're going to sit in the exam, therefore, it is high time for you to select optionals according to your background, potential, and interest etc. This is the very initial phase of your CSS exam, you're supposed to learn how to take decisions on your own, if you cannot, stop dreaming of doing CSS. For if you failed in this very step of your exam by following others blindly and not your heart. I don't think so if you are competent to appear in competitive exams. All you need little guidance in order to select your optionals, let me help you in this regard.

[I](Watch out which subject's syllabus is less, and may take your lesser time to get across without any hurdle)[/I]
[B]- Scoring Trend[/B]
[I](To me, scoring trend is a myth because if you are good in a good subject and you also performed well in that subject. I believe, it will be a great injustice to you if the examiner would let you get higher marks in that very subject)

People should stop treating CSS as a math question. There is no formula to pass it and every one will have a unique experience. For some people political sciences will work and for others IR will. At the end of the day, pick a subject that suits you the best!

I also want to add that every individual should do some self evaluation and pick what is best for them. They should take advice from others but the final decision must be their own. This is a leadership exam, and if we can't make decisions for our own sake then how will we run the country

This is the need of the time now.
After doing bachelor or Master every, nowadays, wants to do CSS by following others blindly because they may know someone in the their surroundings who has already done CSS. Nonetheless, they never intend to learn how much one might have confronted with to achieve such a position.

That is sadly true and I have seen people change their fields for CSS, and some just do a degree in IR for CSS. There is definitely a shortage of jobs in the market, but CSS is not the end of the world. If one uses some out of the box thinking then a lot can be done. One does not have to be a civil servant to bring a change. Furthermore, a CSP is not only leadership position that one can find.

CSS has become trendy, I can understand people doing it because of job or interest, but just doing it for the sake of doing it doesn't do CSS any justice and puts money in the pockets of the academies. So many people don't even appear after their first attempt.

Thanks for the post. To what extent do you think International law and international affairs overlap? Or is it better to go for Constitutional law with PoliSci? I have some background and interest in both combinations.

How to clear the confusion about IR and pol sci.

How can i came to know that i should go for IR or pol science? I mean before starting prep ..wht is the best way to know about the perspectives of these subjects. What is the best way.
Either read books of these subjects or papers? Kindly help

Go through syllabus of subjects and past papers. By then, you will know about your interest, aptitude, ease and perspective about one the subjects. Then you will have a conviction to opt one.
