Question Ally,natural or strategic?

Why USA dubs Pakistan as a strategic ally and India as a natural ally?Senior members are requested to throw light upon the statement and come up with logical arguments.Thanks.

In international relations, the permanence of interests overrides strategic or 'natural' considerations. This is according to the realist perspective.

India has been dubbed a natural ally because of the Western liberal notion/perspective that democracies always co-operate and are natural allies to each other. The USA is the 'beacon' of democracy whereas India is the 'largest democracy' in the world.

Pakistan is not a functioning democracy. It has interests which are counter to those of the US (Pan-Islamism, relations with China, goals in Afghanistan, Kashmir, etc). Moreover, India is a natural counter to China and is the USA's bad boy in the region. Pakistan, on the other hand, is China's friend and the USA doesn't like that too much.

USA and Pakistan work together on certain issues but otherwise, especially after the Cold War, their interests take them in opposite directions. India, on the other hand, has its anti-terrorist, commercial and political interests aligned with the United State's almost perfectly.
