Do keep yourself abreast of the latest world wide happenings and try to link them with fundamental IR concepts and theories.Moreover, since from 2012 paper pattern is changed in terms of the questions asked you need to rely more and more on current International affairs.
P.S Take a cursory look of the syllabus as well because students opting IR over the past few years have developed this habit of skipping the syllabus and preparing a list of important topics from the past papers. 2012 should be an eye opener for all those with no prior background of IR.
