According to Plato, virtue is the pinnacle of one's soul, and all men have different capacities to render services for their community (or state). Those men have also different appetites to content their soul. i.e. wisdom, spirit, desire. When the state or its Philosopher-King assures them to reach the zenith of the soul, that is giving them justice. And justice can only be done by the virtual who possess all knowledge of virtue (justice)

According to Socrates, all men want to do good or get good. When they do not know what is the good, they cannot get that. On the other hand, if other know what is good, they will get the good. And that is the knowledge of a person that drives him to the good (to be virtual and to do virtuous work).
