AoA,
first of all for ur kind information app maths and pure maths can not be opted combinely. Pure maths is very very difficult to prepare because for its preparation u have to consult at least 11 books of msc level.

as far as app maths is concerned it is relatively easier to prepare. I can only suggest u the books portion wise of papers.

PAPER ONE

Portion A

The A portion includes 2 questions from vector analysis and 2 from mechanics.

VECTOR PORTION

book of vector analysis by ZR BHATTI a text book of Bsc level
U r also advised the book of schaumn's series VECTOR ANALYSIS for the surface integral and tensor portion and remeber tensor is included in second paper not in first.

MECHANICS

only one book of mechanics that is of DR Q K GHORI This is a recommended book for bsc level read every thing of this book and remeber that u have to complete this book twice or thrice to get more than 90 marks in first paper bcz near about 90 to 95 percent of mechanics portion comes from this book.

PAPER 2

The paper two also contains three portions two are subjective and one is objective that is compulsary.

FIRST PORTION differential equations
The recommended book for this portion is mathematical techniques by carvan publishers I dont remember the name of authors but u can have it from any good book shop.

SECOND PORTION NUMERICAL AND TENSOR ANALYSIS

for numerical analysis cosult the book of Dr S A BHATTI named NUMERICAL ANALYSIS USING C++ this is a text book for computer greduates for mathematical computing but it will help u a lot in preparing and for tensor analysis use the book above I have mentioned ie vector analysis by schaumn's series. And also remember that the keys ie solutions of all the above books I have mentioned except that of vector analysis by schaumn's series are also available.

I have done BSC and i have practised some of this books in double math. I am also preparing for 2006 papers. Can u explain which of the papers u have given syllabus, u r preparing for. I am really confused what all mean by that we cannot take both subjects together. may i know ur optional subjects.

Dear afshan,
The rules do not permitt u to opt pure maths with applied maths at the same time. Because u can't opt a subject or subjects of more than 200 from the a group and app and pure are both of 200 and they are also in the same group.

SO you cant opt subjects of more than 200 from the same group?What if u chose pure maths and computer science,is that also not allowed. So one has to chose subjects up to 200 from one group?

Subjects carrying not more than 200 marks can be opted.As in Group C
Subjects are

1.Pure Mathematics (200)

2.Applied Mathematics(200)

3.Computer Science(100)

4.Statistics(100)

So u can opt for either one subject of 200 marks(Pure Maths or Applied Maths) or can opt for two subjects carrying 200 marks(CS and Stats).You can not opt for both CS and Applied Maths at the sam time.

I think you forgot to recommend book for the dynamics portion of paper1 applied maths. kindly do tht plzz. i really need a good book for dynamics.

i request you all not to opt for Physics and Applied Mathematics in CSS because these are the toughest and lengthy subjects. They are considered as lowest marks scoring subjects. I have seen M.sc Mathematics and B.Sc Engineers weeping in these papers. They are time consuming and the end result will failure or low score. Its better not to take these subjects in CSS even if you done master in these subjects. To prepare one paper of these subjects you will have to work hard as if you are preparing two papers.

you all are kindly requested here not to opt for Physics and Applied or Pure Mathematics because these two are very low scoring subjects as well as very tough. You cannot score more than 40 or 45 marks in each paper of these subject even after working hard. They will consume most of your time and then even after that the preparation will be poor because they are very tough and length. Due to the reason that they are very lengthy you would not be able even to revise them properly for papers due short gap between papers in CSS examination. I have seen Master of physics, mathematics and Engineers weeping in these papers.
