Hira, Geology was previously accommodated with Geography, Botany, Zoology, n i guess along with Chemistry n Physics. These all subjects carried the load of 200 marks each. Now, after the regrouping, they are distributed in two different Groups. Geology was the least opted subject previously due to its rough nature, broad syllabus, n especially it requires background because the paper often comes very analytical n you are supposed to reply the examiner in a research paper tone. So, Students (generally) didn't bother that load in Past. Now, things are different. to be very rational i don't see any (Major) Comprenssion in new syllabus following the Capacity of Century, but (Slight) Expansion!
Meanwhile, it is a SAFE Choice along any Math's Optional or Statistics.
Hope this helps..
Jazak-Allah

Brother,
I am little confused. The syllabus, to me, doesn't seem that hefty and difficult, as i have opted Geography and studied it well. But the opinion of the teachers at PU and of erudite like you is baffling me. I am not a geologist, to make it clear, but have studied geology as a subject in engineering, you may consider me 'a beginner'.

Can you please share the marks potential of the subject, if you or your friends have happened to attempt this subject?
How much time do you think this subject would take for a beginner to have substantial grip, for average marks?
Is this subject safe enough to obtain average scores of 40 to 60?

Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Thanks and regards.

I am geologist but now according to new syllabus i dont think geology is good choice because we have to take maths or stats along with geology to complete 200 marks from group. And mathematics or statistics requires strong grip on these two subjects, so geologists are not advance level mathematicians and those who have maths background cannot prepare geology because its complete degree.
