Need help
I am an electrical engineer and work in oil & gas multinational based in karachi, i have no previous backgroungd in geology but going through the syllabus it seemed to me that geology is not a rocket science. Can anyone who has priorly attempted this subject can advise me if it is possible for a beginner to complete this subject in 2 months and what is the scoring trend in geology?

Books
Aslam o alaikum!
No any single book can assist u in covering all the subdivisions of geology, you will have to consult atleast 5 to 7 books... geology is divided into various branches like petroleum, engineering, paleontology, stratigraphy, structural, field etc. So you`ll have to study them individually.... Essentials of Geology (eighth edition) by frederick lutgens can help you for general geology. Beginners should read this book. |
The Best books for studying geolgy are:
General Geology: Physical Geology by Plummer 12th ed. Sedimentolgy: Sedimentology and Stratigraphy by Gray Nicholss Tectonics: Global Tectonics by Philips Kearey 3rd ed. Structural Geology: Fundamentals of Structural Geology by R G Park and Various books Geophysics: Fundamentals of Geophysics William Lowrie Micropaleontology: Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology by Raymond C. Moore Mineralogy and Petrology: Earth Materials by Cornelis Klein, Anthony R. Philpotts Geology of Pakistan: Geology and Tectonics of Pakistan by Kazmi and Jan Petroleum Geology of Pakistan by Iqbal Qadri Stratigraphic memoirs of Pakistan by Shah GSP |
principles of engineering geology by k.m bhangar is a useful book regarding geology.

Not sure how a book about Micro paleontology would help you learn anything about fossils, it is one of the sections and its vast, you need a book that talks about paleontology in general and that which touches a bit of sedimentology. Principles of Paleontology by Raup & Stanley is a good book which does not cost a fortune unlike other textbooks about geology.
