when a force is applied on a body for example a door, it rotates around a fixed point called axis of rotation or pivot.
suppose we exerts force on the outer edge of the door. in this case the perpendicular distance between the pivot and the point where we exerts force is called moment arm or moment. it is denoted by r as u can see in torque's equation T = r * F this r is moment. this is a distance measured in meters. |

hmm...okk. well my question is simple. 1. torque and moment/moment arm same chex hai? 2. if not, what is the major difference between them? 3. in a situation, how can you distinguish between these two, torque produce hua hai ya moment.? - off topic...this is sehrish here not some brother |

sorry for calling u brother
1. these are not the same 2. torque is the effect(turning) produced by a force, u can call torque a type of force in certain conditions while moment is a distance 3. torque is produced by combine effect of distance(moment) and force ap jb kisi door ko push karti ho to jo rotation door me paida hota he that is torque jahan py ap push karti ho waha se ly k os point tk jaha door frame me fixed hota he waha tk km se mk distace ko moment kehty he i hope ab kch concept bn gaya hoga |

Simple
Moments its a limited concept (fixed to single point) therefore we use in statics. Torque in dynamics and is a broad concept not fixed to a single point rather it is irrespective of point of application of moment/force. There's a difference but subtle. Not even palpable in practical problem solving. You can understand the difference by analyzing second condition of equilibrium or rotational equilibrium. And moment and moment arm are not same. moment arm is always distance therefore scalar.
moment when form part of torque means rotational character o force that is applied. |

and if moment arm is a distance then what is moment? |

Torque is rotation about longitudinal axis, while moment is rotation about any axis.

Torque produces Torsion in a body, while moment produces bending.
