this is by adding all the three equations

you'll have 1/a, 1/b, 1/c two times so you take 2 common

Q.1 Ali is 67.His son rehan is 29.In How many years will rehan be exactly half his father’s age?

Ans:

Difference in ages = 38 years
so when Ali will be 38 + 38 = 76 years old his son rehan will be 38 years old which is half the age of rehan.
hence after 38-29 = 9 years Rehan will be exactly half his father's age.

Q.2 Of d 20 ppl who won prize money, 7 have come forward to claim their winnings. what percent of the ppl have not yet appeared?

Ans:

Total no. of people not yet appeared = 20 - 7 = 13
Percentage of people not yet appeared = no. of people not appered * 100 / total no. of people
= 13 * 100/ 20 = 80%

Q.3 If the result obtained by multiplying a num, x, by a num 1 less than itself is 4 less than multiplying x by itself, then x=?

Ans:

by given condition product of x and x-1 is 4 less than x^2
so we get
x(x-1)+4 = x^2
=> x^2 - x + 4 - x^2 = 0
=>x = 4

Q.4 If 3m<48 and 2m>24 than m will be equal to?

Ans;

3m<48 => m<16
and
2m>24 => m>12 or 12<m
so 12<m<16
so if m is an integer then m = 13, 14 or 15
otherwise
m lies in the interval (12,16)

Q.5 what single discount is equivalent to two successive discounts of 10% and 15%?

Ans:

let total price = x then
10% of x = 0.1x
so price will be = 0.9x
and 15% more discount on it will be = 15/100 * 0.9x
=0.135x
so price will be = 0.9x - 0.135x = 0.865x
so total discount is = 0.235x = 23.5 % x
thus a single discount of 23.5% is equal to two successive discounts of 10% and 15%.

ayesha is correct in all except Q2 where there is a miscalculation but her procedure is correct

Quote:
Q.1
9 is correct
Quote:
Q.2

a miscalculation by ayesha

13 * 100/ 20 = 65 %

you mistakenly wrote 80
Quote:
Q.3

4*3 = 12 which is 4 less than 16(4^2)

generally (X^2) - X + X = X^2
if its 5 less then x= 5 (5*4 =20 which is 5 less than 25(5^2) )
if 6 less then x = 6 (6*5 = 30 which is 6 less than 36(6^2) )

Quote:
Q.4
she is correct
beacuse if you use 10 then
3m<48 -------> 30<48 (ok)
2m>24-------> 20 > 24 ( wrong)

hence 10 is wrong

Quote:
Q.5
1 - (.90 *.85 ) = 0.235 = 23.5%
