The Mathematical functions which have established names and symbols due to their importance are called special functions.
There is no specific criteria for them.

Some of them are gamma function, Beta function, Heaviside unit step function, Bessel's function, Legender function, Lambda function and many more .

what are the uses of special functions( i.e of bessel function, gamma function ,hermitian function and many others ) in physics?
