You should opt it, it overlaps in geography, I have almost done it and made my own short notes. With little background, you can tackle this subject pretty well. If you don't have any idea then it can give you tough time but it won't take more than 15 days. Its syllabus is too short.

Planning as a multi-disciplinary approach and relationship of Town Planning with other professions. I have covered this portion from net and a civil engineering book that contains the terms, explanations and construction orientations. As it covers socio-physical and economic planning. For approaches, I have read the book of surveying, in which combination of disciplines are given that how architecture, civil engineering, management sciences, scientific approaches, urban management and town planning are interconnected to one an other. Also, it depicts the role of social sciences extensively and so on. Thus, town planning is all about Well balanced social & economic development Improvement of life quality, Responsible administration of resources & environment protection and Rational use of land. I have prepared some diagrams in this chapter that what is the role of planners, trend of plannings in accordance with socioeconomic, political, cultural, physical and ecological aspects. For this chapter, you can find plenty of concert stuff from net. Objectives of town planning can easily be downloaded from net or you can also do it from any constructions' book that are studied in Technical Colleges for Town planning subject. You can divide it into Health and welfare, convenience and beauty on account of construction and master planning. II. Historical Perspective of Urban Planning: Planning of historical towns in the world. Examples of planned towns in Europe, Nile Valley region, Euphrates and Tigris Valley region and Indus Valley region (Mohenjodaro, Harappa, Kot Diji and Mehr Garh) and Gandhara Civilization. I have sound background in this chapter, I have studied it from old stone age, bronze age, old, middle and upper paleolithic ages. However, it needs only town planning knowledge of the civilization of Indus, Egyptian, Tigric, Greek, and Euphrates. So, I went to library of Civil Department but could not find any book then I got good books from the Archi department, I met with one of my friends who gave me some notes of it to get photocopied them. Thus, I could manage to cover it in coordination with my friends who made it possible for me to cover it. We have made outlines of the following topics: Town Planning of Indus Valley: 5k AD and 7k BC old It comprises Pak & North West India, between Indus River & Ghaghar Hakra River. Its towing planning is advanced in its age, cover mohen jo daro, its great baths, streets, drainage system, upper and lower houses' town planning. Cover, Harapa, Sumarian, Kot Diji and the oldest Mehrgar's planning, For this chapter, you can consult B.Arach's book of Visual Art I. For Egyptian Civilization, you need to cover "town planning of that era, pyramids, houses and so on...You can also get a lot of knowledge from net. Also, cover pictographicy that contains planning maps of that era. We have prepared some maps of pictographic symbols, hopefully it will help us in attempting. Persian town planning and Tigrig valley is also good topic, I just got some important points from net and Surveying book I. covered it that how this civilization established on Tigrig and established in their ages to develop a great town planning. In it, you will read the majer role of Tigrig river. Plus, cover some neolithic age in this chapter, it will help you in geography too. Gandhara Civilzation Location: Northern Pakistan and Afghanistan, in vale of Peshawar, Potohar Plateau on the Kabul River Cities: Pushapura (Peshawar) “city of man”, Varmayana “modern Bamayan”, Takshahila “Taxila”. Period: 1st millennium BC to 11th century AD. Rulers: Alberuni, Ghaznavi & then Gandhara name disappeared Texila: The Gandharan city of Taxila was an important Buddhist and Hindu [11] centre of learning from the 5th century BC[11] to the 2nd century. Sawat+Dir+Peshawar+Taxila was called Gandhara. Evidences: of Stone Age (Cave), Bronze Age , Gandhara script writings etc , Budhist art This civilization is symbol of human, religious, art and history development. Urban Rural Differences and Hierarchy of Settlements: Urbanization and its effects on the environment of urban areas. They have just included the chapter of Economic Geography. I have Afzal's book of eco and human geography, that contains each and every thing what is required, hence, since I am already done with this chapter, so I just skiped it. It contains rural and urban settlements and read how Urbanization commenced and its causes effects after industrialization. IV. History of planning in Pakistan: 5 year plans. I downloaded it from net and also adjusted some more points. V. Managing Urbanization •How to manage urbanization •Best Practices •Land use classification policy •Building and development control •Removal of encroachments •Introduction to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) VI. Housing community and Economic Development: To prepare professionals with the skills and knowledge of equitable development. Commitment to expanding opportunities and providing quality life for disadvantaged groups. VII. Public Policy and Urban Design Management: Solving social and environmental problems using: a. Economics b. Policy analysis c. Political science d. Urban Design VIII. Sustainability, Environmental Policy and Planning: How society conserves and manages its natural resources and works to promote development. IX. Urban Information Systems: Use of planning related software and spatial analysis tools and systems i.e GIS. For the above topics, consult GIS chapter from geology. Rest, managing urbanization is mostly google and I have managed to do it well form net and economic and geology's book that is easily available in geology department. In this chapter, I will have to cover latest economic survey of Paksitan, latest statics and reports about natural resources, urbanization management and its implications. I have almost done this subject, now I am doing Geography. |
