Town planning a tough a deceiving subject

To all friends who opting town planning, let not be deceived by the books available in the market. All are copy paste from internet and lack in sufficient and quality material. Town planning is a multidisciplinary subject that demands a lot of attention and can't be prepared by the sub-standard books. After doing an extensive and intensive study, i have come to the conclusion that following books are almost compulsory for TP&um:
introducing planning by Clara greed (very much important)
town planning in 21 st century(available on internet)
poverty curtain
reflections on human development, both by mehboob ul haq
urban planning by levy.
one is not required to thoroughly prepare all these books but some portions of them. I have ordered these books from www.amazon.co.uk and will be receiving them by the mid of December. If anyone (from Peshawar only) interested i would lend him/her these books for photocopy

Town planning is not a tough subject as you might be thinking. Moreover, the syllabus for the subject is won't take a long time for completion. However, I am also critical of most of the books that are being pumped into market just to make money. I've completed my preparation for the subject if you like feel free to post you query.

You absolutely are right but i fear planning in Pak part is not confined to 5 year plans only. Regional plans are also a part of the course. Besides in local book there is no proper analysis of any of these plans. GIS dss and spss part have also been elaborated less. Overall no standard book in the market.

As far as the town planning in Pakistan's context concerned, you don't need to go through those regional or local plans. These plans are specific to a given area. For example, a district/local plan or a master plan for Karachi would have the features of that area only. You shouldn't worry about such plans in Pakistan's context because they are not mentioned in the syllabus. Five-year development plan focus mainly on the economic development (these plans are emulated from the Soviet Union's plans).

As you might be aware, SPSS is used for numerical data analysis only; it doesn't need to be included in subject which is a introductory one. On the other hand, Geographical Information System (GIS) is of great importance in the contemporary Town Planning as well as in numerous other fields.

As for a good book for the subject in the market, you shouldn't expect one for CE-2016. It will take some time before someone from the faculty of Town Planning author a good book for the purpose. One optimistic thing about the subject is its length and breadth of the syllabus; it's very much do able for someone new to the subject within a shorter amount of time when compared with the other subjects.

You have to be specific. What book(s) have you read for the subject? What part of the syllabus you find most difficult?
