Hi hope you are doing fine....
If you don't have anyback ground in history in would not recommend you to opt for european history.Whatever anyone says,it is a specialized field it contains the history of a whole continent and events occuring in one country are linked to another and therefore have effect on other countries.
so if you have studied E.H in bachelors than its fine go for it...Otherwise go for islamic history....
its your own choice...

if you want to go for E.H then go for these books....

1.European History by V.D.MAHAJAN( although this book is not of high standard it helps a novice to get to know european history)

2.Europe since Napoleon by David Thomson.

3.European History by C.D.HAZEN.(very good book but hard to find).

If your going for Islamic History then go for these books...

1.History of saracens by S.Ameer Ali

2.Islamic History by Mazhar-ul-haq

3.Islamic History by k.Ali...

@Great joia...

you are right to question that if european history is so easy why are the students getting marks in the range of 60-80??

the answer is that from the last two years the examiner has been changed and the paper in not like past papers. It is rather a specialized paper and only those students who has deep study in european history could do well rest failed miserably to do well.

so will not recommend a novice to opt for european history atleast till the current examiner continues.

Help Needed

Dear Mr. Mehsud, you have secured excellent marks in European History despite the fact that the 2007 paper was the most difficult one i have ever seen in css. Kindly recommend me books that you feel will accrue me more marks in European History.
I will be really thankful to you.

Jehangir

Hi
The books posted by me in this thread are enough to solve your problem but only if you really go through them well.Try to develop analytical style as the question these dayz are of this type. And stick to good books don;t go for raghubir dayal etc...

Jehangir Brother! Maneka is right. Every book is a good book provided a right approach is developed for studying a book. However i strongly believe that any book may be preferable for some topics but not for all. Therefore i enlist the books i have studied and will also add which book is strong in which particular topic:

1.Europe Since Napoleon by David Thomson.(French Revolution, Revolutions of 1830 and 1948, Industrial Revolution)

2.Aspects of European History by Dr Stephen J. Lee.(Napoleon Bonaparte(Excellent), Role of Cavour And Bismarck, League of Nations, Great Depression, Europe Political and Economic Integration, THE FORCES OF NATIONALISM IN EUROPE)

3.Modern European History 1789-1980 by H.L.Peacock (French Revolution and Eastern Question)
4.Mastering Modern European History by Stuart T. Miller(This book may be used as a supplementary source. It is not good for any topic independently but may help u indirectly).
5.History of Modern Europe since 1789 by V.D. Mahajan(Napoleon Adventures, various coalition formed to counter Napoleon, Napoleon III, and for such topics as the two unifications and the Russian Bolshevik Revolution where events are required in a sequence)

6.Mastering Modern World by Norman Lowe.(This is an excellent book for twentieth century world. It will reduce your labour because the author has simplified every topic by giving good headings.Foreign policies of Hitler, Mussolini, Chamberlain Appeasement Policy towards Hitler and Impacts of the Two Great Wars are some very good topics).

I agree with you.But Mr.Usman was just doing what was being asked. He was asked which books should be consulted etc and according to me he gave his honest opinion.I have gone through almost all these books and that is why i think he is correct in every detail.
but i agree that css is all about numbers than intellect.
