I am going to do preparations for it.
What is your selection? This is my first attempt, one of my friend( who attempted CSS 2013 and CSS 2014 ) says it is really difficult to remember events, dates etc. |

I recently studied it from v.d mahajan. I did not find book of h.l.peacock.how you are going to prepare. Kindly share it with me. |
I am considering this subject however I am currently figuring out which history course out of E.H, British history and US history has shortest syllabus.
|
In my opinion, if you have opted for international relations then European history is the best bet because many of the topics overlap. Regardless, it is an interesting subject.
|
What about opting he International relation if one has no background?
|
European History is lengthy but it overlaps some portion of International Relations.
|
But my question is regarding preparation strategy
|
I opted E. H. in my 2015 attempt. Still regretting it. :)
Hoping that it would not do as much damage to me as it did to some of my seniors who opted it. Personally, I opted it because I found it interesting. Later I came to know that its examiners can never be satisfied. People get average marks even with excellent preparation and brilliant performances in exam. If you're still deciding to go for it, okay then. I can help regarding its preparation. I allocated maximum time to this subject during my preparation. I would be glad if I could be of any help. |
From which book did you prepare European History ?
|
I used V. D. Mahajan for the most part. Along with it, I also studied David Thomson. But I think VDM is enough for 80% of the topics. For a few topics (~20%), D. Thom. is a better choice. Lastly, I made ample use of internet. And with the change in syllabus, recent historical developments (post-1960) will have to be covered from the internet as well, or some new book.

I have studied whole book of V.D Mahajan. But it seems some topics are missing in this book according to new syllabus |

For example which topics do you think are missing in it? Name a few so I may recommend accordingly. |

Related to European Union from 1990 till 2012. What about book of H.L Peacock. It is in recommended books also. Rest everything is in V.D Mahajan |

According to the old syllabus, 1789-1960 was the period to be covered, not beyond it. So, I cannot guide you about a thing which I myself haven't studied. But, in any case, I recommend that you cover this period from online resources. If you can find a proper book, that is best. Otherwise, use internet. |
Hey Cogito. I am in a similar position as you were. I like E.H. and I find it very interesting. I was thinking of going with it, esp since I don't know abc of US history and know only bits and pieces of B.H. Your post confirmed my suspicion. I saw some similar posts from other people in E.H section.
I don't think I should gamble over it. If you were in in my place, which history you would have gone for instead of this? |

That is the only history which still fetches a relatively good score (emphasis on 'relatively'—because histories in general are being discouraged as far as scoreing trends are concerned). If you have other optionals yet to study, and you have to choose one history subject, then go for US. Its syllabus can be covered in a relatively shorter time (again, emphasis on 'relatively'). |
Hmmm I see.
This is tough then. I keep searching to make a decision. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. |
If you have not studied European history up till now. and you have less time for preparation for CE-2016. Then i ll suggest you to opt US history. It is simple to understand and requires less time.

Hi. Didn't you study from Stephen J. Lee ? How good is it ? I am studying from Stephen J. Lee. Also, I need to know what went wrong in your EU paper ? Did you take help from some teacher ? What must be a length or an answer ? Do we write headings ? |

I came to know about the unforgiving nature of its examiners and its pathetic scoring trend only after I had wasted my time on it, so I decided to go along with it. I didn't take help from any teacher, just took some basic guidance from a senior. The length should be ideally between 4-8 pages (depends on the question). If you can adequately sum up all the information the examiner demands into 4 pages, good for you; if you need 8 pages for it, write you must! As for the bit regarding headings, the techniques of attempting a question are the same for all the subjects. Go through this thread to get your query answered:- http://www.cssforum.com.pk/beginners-guide/css-competitive-examination/103596-how-present-your-knowledge-form-effective-answers.html |

I have also opted it for CE 16 as it has been my major subject during masters studies as well as optional in my last attempt. However it is correct that to satisfy examiner in this subject is a hard but to crack.
