If there’s anyone that has taken Indo-Pak History in the past:

1. How much of an overlap did you find with PA and do you think it helped you save preparation time?

2. Do you think knowledge in both these subjects helped you in the analysis for answering questions in the other?

I opted Indo Pak history with the same idea, but it doesn't help in preparation of Pak Affairs, as Pakistan affairs is now moving towards the post-partition era, economy, energy crisis, etc.

In my opinion, it doesn't help.

Yes, it is true that Pakistan Affairs paper has more questions from current affairs related to Pakistan. That fact does not diminish the promise held by indo-pak because a CSS/PMS candidate should know the history of Indo-pak from the advent of Muslims till the partition of subcontinent. Moreover, that knowledge provides the foundation which will be helpful in Pakistan Affairs and sometimes essay. Sometimes you do not have full command over the questions of current affairs nature and there post partition question will be helpful. In PMS-2019 a lot of candidates have failed in Pakistan Affairs.
That is due to lacking of knowledge in post partition period.
As far as Indo - Pakistan 100 marks paper in CSS is concerned ; its revised syllabus is not lengthy and questions related to important rulers like Alaudin Khilji, Balbun, Mongol invasion, Akbar and Aurangzeb are often repeated. Role of Sufis in spreading of Islam in subcontinent is also an important topic. In short that is the kind of knowledge which will help you in many exams.

Please don't opt Indo-Pak, it has always recieved the 'step child' treatment by fpsc and they have ruthlessly targeted this subject 7 times in the past 10 years, infact the only year Indo-Pak was comparatively high scoring was in 2015 and that's it.

This year's paper was far more difficult than any other history paper..check it out if you don't believe me.

Go for British history or US history.

In 2018, I scored 62 marks in Indo pak paper.
Paper was not difficult. Expected questions were asked.
As far as the theory about FPSC targeting a particular subject ; any paper can be targeted. In my view study of Indo - pak history is helpful for all competitive exams (including 100 marks). For aspirants who don't have a choice in current scheme of syllabus, history of India and Pakistan is an appropriate selection.
