Default A few questions regarding History of indo-pak

Respectable members i'm a tyro out here and have got a few questions regarding History of Indo-Pak,if any one of you could kindly answer them.

1.It's advised to quote historians in the paper;now shall i quotes them as they are,or can i rephrase them?

2.it's also advised to cite the sources of info;what's is right way of?

3.and perhaps the most important one.what is basic theme in Indo-Pak paper that examiner wants us to commit to?

1. better to quote as they are however you can rephrase them but keep the main idea same.

2. "S M Ikram says in his book "Muslim rule in the subcontinent", ..........."

you should balance the paper on both sides but as analyst will be preferable.
