Dear Seniors, I need guidance as I am going through past papers and it seems like papers under the current syllabus are 90% following the syllabus but papers under prior syllabus are more deviated from the current one. So, it means we need to consult only the past two papers? which are under the current syllabus or we need to prepare the topics appeared in the past papers too and are not the part of current syllabus?

Definitely the new approach adopted by FPSC. You see all the subjects including US History are more focused on contemporary issues. So, I would highly recommend you to cover US history from the 21st century first as 2016 and 2017 papers are more of current affairs.

You should consult all the past papers but look at them in light of the new syllabus. If you think a question seems irrelevant with respect to the new syllabus, ignore it. Past papers are still a useful resource. I often look back at the papers to find out what type of questions have been asked.
