Thanks for this listing Islah, I have also opted for US History, although It seems an easy subject, It is not entirely so in my view. I also have the two books by Majumdar, but they are a bane to read....anyways, I would appreciate if someone could share any resources on US History.

1- Early Settlements. History of colonies, etc 2: American Independence War. Constitution framing, Bill of Rights, etc 3: Jeffersonian and Jacksonian Democracies 4: Civil War- causes, effects, end result. (it includes slavery) 5: Study some modern history like US in World War I and World War II, Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, important doctrines like Monroe Doctrine, Marshall Plan, etc. 6: Post 9/11 America. It includes 9/11 and US relations with Muslim world (Pakistan) and its Foreign Policy. This way you can cover all the papers in the past 8-10 years. But if you like to study further, that's your choice. I would recommend reading the books given at the following addresses: http://www.america.gov/publications/...y-outline.html and http://www.america.gov/publications/...-in-brief.html and http://www.america.gov/publications/...onamerica.html. they are really helpful. Moreover, google and wikipedia are at your disposal.

Hi, Read the above posts. Your questions have been answered. Nevertheless, i will repeat that read everything related to civil war. other topics u mentioned r not frequent exam questions, so u can drop them (at your own risk). consult past papers. I have given links to a few important books in my earlier post. they are available online. they will let u cover upto Clinton. the rest is yet in the category of contemporary history. it will be asked only in the perspectives of political, international affairs and foreign policy.

Islah i have taken your post and made it a little better. i had studied US history for my papers and i think there are several topics that never appear. i am going to take your post and just modify it. tyou can ignore the rest as they seldom appear.
History of USA by Majumdar and sarivastva is a nice book. Here I am posting the most Important topics regarding CSS paper. 3.American War of Independence.... causes of the war Results and significances of war 4. Making of the Constitution Govt of colonies from 1774-1781 Formatin of confederation Framing of the Constitution 5.Federalist Regime Accomplishments of Federalists Aliens and sedetion Acts Election of 1800. 6.Jefferson Jeffersonian Democracy Purchase of Lousiana Jefferson's philosphy of Govt 8.The Era of good and hard feelings. Hoover Great depression Causes of depression Efforts to fight depression Impacts of depression on American History 20. F.D.Roosvelt and New Deal New Deal Evaluation of New Deal Supreme Court and New Deal I Am not saying that the topics that i have deleted should not be read at all. but based upon my experience the paper comes usually from these topics. there might be small notes and mcq's from other topics but these are major areas. so you should atleast read the rest of the topics once I Think it would be much better if you read and then solved the papers. that will help you a lot.
