Lightbulb A Question on Monroe Doctrine & Missouri Compromise

please look into this question and correct me if i am wrong...

President James Monroe made himself for two things: Monroe Doctrine and the Missouri compromise; One permanent and the other a very measure.Discuss

I think its Monroe doctrine which is permanent and the Missouri compromise is the temporary one...

Please your views on this question...

thanks

No doubt Missouri Compromise holds significance, but it is Monroe Doctrine's influence which had a big bearing for USA. 2ndly, Missouri Compromise was repealed in Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, n In the Dred Scott v. Sandford case in 1857. So, Monroe Doctrine is of premenant nature.

what you have inferred is the right one. but also let me tell you something about english grammar.
whenever you see such a sentence when two things are being said about two things earlier mentioned, the first one always corresponds with the first one, and the second one with the second one, unless mentioned otherwise.

so Monroe doctrine(1)... Missouri compromise(2).... permanent(1).....temporary(2)

got it??

Default Query:Seniors please look into this

I want advice from those with experience of U.S history that which questions should be attempted:..?

1. Questions related with the pre independence, that is, Salutary neglect, social and political causes, or like enlightenment

2. Or one should attempt questions related to post independence... for example of civil war, slavery, presidents and so on...

I am asking this because i feel that questions related with pre independence may have very different angles and which might be missed, and fetch less marks than post independence question, and post independence questions are easy to cover and comprehensively covered too in Majumdar's book...

So please share your valuable experience in this regard...

as i said earlier, there are no pre-independence questions that i have seen in the exams. to the paper setter the American history starts with the war of independence. all of the questions fetch good marks if you prepare them well enough.

you need not know the exact dates but you should know what happened after what. your chronological order should be exact.

thanx dear i am looking for more input from you.... but one thing i will repeat that do questions, like mercantilism, salutary neglect, and enlightenment, need not be considered as events before independence??

they are, but i have never seen them appearing in the exams. so why bother about them?? have a look at the papers and you will understand what i am talking about. and the US history paper is usually very predictable.
