salam,
answer is quite simple, abdur rehman I did not invade spain. he was founder of ummayadh dynasty in spain b/c his dynasty was replaced by abbasid dynasty. abbasids killed all the ummayadh family members though abul rehman had narrow escape and disguised himself.however, he eventually reached ceuta where berbers who were family of his maternal uncle, welcomed him, albeit berbers were the lovers of ummayadh. thence abdur rehman sent his servant badr to spain so as to negotiate with syrians while being assured of their help, he went to spain and established ummaydh dynasty once again in 755 therefore he is considered the founder
