History bears witness to the fact that the first Naval Jihad in the history of Islam was organized and lead by Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah Bin Abi Sufyan (RA).
During the Calipahte of Sayyidna Abu Bakr Bin Abu Quhafa (RA) and Sayyidna Umar Bin Al Khattab (RA) Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah Bin Abi Sufyan (RA)
served in the army and fought under the command of Sayyidna Khalid Bin Al Waleed (RA), Sayyidna Abu Ubaida Bin Al Jarrah (RA) and Sayyidna
Yazeed Bin Abi Sufyan (RA). After the death of Sayyidna Yazeed Bin Abi Sufyan (RA), Sayyidna Umar Bin Al Khattab (RA) appointed Sayyidna Amir
Muawiyah Bin Abi Sufyan (RA) as the Governor of Syria. When Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) became the Calpih, he confimed Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah
Bin Abi Sufyan (RA) as the Governor of Syria and added some more territories to his jurisdiction.

In the year 656 A. D. when the rebels had surrounded Madinah, Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) held a council with the Governors of the various
Provinces. Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah Bin Abi Sufyan (RA) gave Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) 3 options. First option was he said that Sayyidna
Uthman Bin Affan (RA) should come to Syria with him. Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) rejected this option and said that he could not leave the
city of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Second option was that Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) should let Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah Bin Abi Sufyan
(RA) send the Syrian troops to Madina to protect him. Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) said that he did not want to be the cause of a civil war.
At this, Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah Bin Abi Sufyan (RA) said that in that case if Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) was killed at least he should be
given the right and authority to take the Qisas of his blood. Sayyidna Uthman Bin Affan (RA) agreed to this option. And so in the year 656 A.

One of the instructions of Mu’awiya to a new governor was:
“Open your door to the people; thus you will have information from them. You and they are equal. When you decide on a matter, express it openly to the people, and no one will expect anything or make demands on you, and you will be able to carry it out. When you encounter your enemies, and they defeat you at the border of your territory, do not let them defeat you in its interior. If your companions need you to assist them personally, do so.”

He once wrote to ‘A’isha requesting some succinct advice and she wrote back, “I heard the Messenger of Allah say, ‘If anyone seeks the pleasure of people at the expense of the wrath of Allah, Allah will entrust him to them until the one who praised him becomes his critic. If anyone seeks the pleasure of Allah at the expenseof people, Allah will be enough for him against them.’” He took this to heart and later said on the minbar of Damascus, “No one abandons fearfulness of Allah but that the one who praised him becomes his critic.”

The Companion, al-Miswar b. Makhrama visited Mu’awiya and said, “Peace be upon, you, O king!” ……Muavia said, “I know better what you said. Why do you attack the amirs?” He replied, “I do not leave anything without criticising it.” He said, ‘Miswar! We are not innocent of wrong actions but we hope for the mercy of Allah. I am following a Shari’a of certainty in which Allah accepts the good and overlooks the evil. If I were to be given a choice betwee

Default Book 10, Number 3852:

Abil Qiliba reported: I was in Syria (having) a circle (of friends). in which was Muslim b. Yasir. There came Abu’l-Ash’ath. He (the narrator) said that they(the friends) called him: Abu’l-Ash’ath, Abu’l-Ash’ath, and he sat down. I said to him: Narrate to our brother the hadith of Ubada b. Samit. He said: Yes. We went out on an expedition, Mu’awiya being the leader of the people, and we gained a lot of spoils of war. And there was one silver utensil in what we took as spoils. Mu’awiya ordered a person to sell it for payment to the people (soldiers). The people made haste in getting that. The news of (this state of affairs) reached ‘Ubada b. Samit, and he stood up and said: I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbidding the sale of gold by gold, and silver by silver, and wheat by wheat, and barley by barley, and dates by dates, and salt by salt, except like for like and equal for equal. So he who made an addition or who accepted an addition (committed the sin of taking)interest. So the people returned what they had got. This reached Mu’awiya. and he stood up to deliver an address. He said: What is the matter with people that they narrate from the Messenger (may peace be upon him) such tradition which we did not hear though we saw him (the Holy Prophet) and lived in his company? Thereupon, Ubida b. Samit stood up and repeated that narration, and then said: We will definitely narrate what we heard from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him)though it may be unpleasant to Mu’awiya (or he said: Even if it is against his will). I do not mind if I do not remain in his troop in the dark night. Hammad said this or something like this.

WILL OF HZ. MUAWIYAH[RA]

In his will Muawiyah[ra] advised Yazid to deal with people of Iraq with caution as they are troublesome. He should not hesitate to frequently change governor if they so desire. The people of Hijaz should be dealt, with utmost courtesy.

Regarding Hussain[ra] Muawiyah[ra] advised that in case the people of Iraq try to gain his support in creating trouble and if he is over powered he should be treated with compassion and respect. Regarding Abdullah Bin Zubair he advised that no compassion should be shown to him. On 22 Rajab 60 hijrah [680 CE] Hz. Muawiyah[ra] breathed his last.

Hz. Muawiyah[ra] great success in restoring the unity and prestige of the Ummah was mainly due to his sincerity of purpose and his extraordinary qualities. He was clear headed, libral, good tempered and political genius. He had quallity of for-bearance and prudent mildness by which he tried to disarm the enemy, and his absolute self-control made him endure all circumstances and the master of any situation

Default Love among companions of Holy Prophet

Sayyidna Ali Bin Abi Talib (RA) had once said after the Battle of Siffin : " Do not speak evil about Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah (RA) because if he were to die, our lives would become so insecure that you will see necks flying from the bodies everywhere."

Sayyidna Abdullah Bin Abbas (RA) once said: " Leave Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah (RA) alone because he is a person who has enjoyed the Companionship of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Once Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah (RA) received a letter from the Ceaser of Rome, it said: I know that your brother Sayyidna Ali Bin Abi Talib (RA) has caused you a lot of trouble so if you wish I will send a large Roman army to help you against him." In reply to this letter Sayyidna Amir Muawiyah (RA) wrote: " O Ceaser dont try to take advantage of the differences between me and Sayyidna Ali Bin Abi Talib (RA). I know that you want to fight the Muslims but beware if you send an army againg us, the first person to come out from the army of Sayyidna Ali Bin Abi Talib (RA) to behead you will be Muawiyah."

May Allah be pleased with him and all other Companions who are the pillars of Islam.

The virtues of the blessed companion of Nabi e pak ie...Hazrat Ameer e Mauwiya

Amongst the noteworthy Sahaabah was Muaawiya whose prestige and position in the eyes of Nabi e pak was such that he was amongst those Sahaabah to whom the delicate and tremendous taste of writing down wahi (divine revelation of the Qurân) was entrusted.
This special duty also necessitated his being regularly in the service of Nabi e pak thus enabling his personality and character to be developed directly at the hands of the noble master himself.

Such was the love Nabi e pakhad for him that he was given the following beautiful and concise Dua by Nabi e pak'O Allah! make Muáwiyaa a means of hidaayat and make him one who is himself on hidaayat and give people hidaayat through him.'

On another occasion Nabi e pak said, 'Allaah! guide him with guidance from yourself, save him from any disgrace and forgive all his past and future sins.' (Tabrani).

Nabi e pak even made Dua for the knowledge of Muáwiya where he said, 'O Allaah endow Muáwiya with the special knowledge of the Quran and save him from punishment.' (Ahmad; Tabraani).

Muáwiyaa was even privileged to be the brother-in-law of Nabi e paksince Umm Habibaa the sister of Muáwiyaa, was one of Nabi e pak's wives.

Once Nabi e pak came home to find Muáwiyaa with his sister. He asked her whether she loved him. To this Umm Habibaa declared that he was her brother and therefore she definitely loved him. It was then that Muáwiya received tremendous gladtidings from Nabi e pakwhere he said, 'Allaah and His Rasul definitely love Muáwiyaa.' (Tabrani).

Such was the confidence which Nabi e pak had in the leadership qualities and trustworthiness of Muáwiya that Nabi e pak once consulted with hazrat Abu Bakr and hazrat Umar regarding a certain matter.
They were unable to give a suitable suggestion. Nabi e pakthen sent for Muáwiyaa saying: 'Consult Muáwiyaa in your affairs since he is trustworthy and reliable.' (Tabrani, Bazzaar)

The confidence which Nabi e pak had in him was of such a level that he even made Dua: 'O Allaah endow him with the knowledge of the Quraân and grant him leadership of the lands.' (Tabrani)

This Hadith in essence represents the prophecy of Nabi e pak with regards to Muáwiyaa gaining leadership.

Similar confidence was exhibited by none other than hazrat Umar whose stringent requirements for governorship are well known. He appointed Muáwiyaa governor, in which position he remained throughout the life of Umar as well as that of Usmaan Umar's perception of character was tremendous and it was he who said: 'You praise the rulers of Persia and Rome and speak highly of their knowledge, whereas you have in your midst a man like Muáwiyaa '.

Hazrat Auf Ibn Maalik says: 'Once whilst sleeping in a masjid in Areeha, I awoke suddenly to notice a lion coming towards me. I lunged for my weapon. The lion addressed me saying that he had been sent to deliver a message. I inquired as to whom had sent him. The lion replied that Allah had sent him to instruct me to inform Muáwiyaa that he was of the people of Jannaat' (Tabrani).

In fact it is reported in Bukhari Shareef that Nabi e pak said: 'The first army that will fight a naval battle in my Ummaah will have made Jannaat compulsory on themselves.' The first naval force was in fact headed by Muáwiyaa during the Caliphate of Usmaan

May Allah ta'ala showers his blessing on the grave of Caliph Hazrat Ameer-e -Mauwiya(ra)Ameen summameen.
