Sana first of all both the papers are held on the same day Paper I from 9-12pm and paper II from 2-5pm.

Now this is what I figured out for the topic division based on the past papers.

Paper I is pretty straightforward
a) Pre-Islamic civilizations
b) Life of the Prophet
c) Orthodox Caliphate
d) Umayyads in Syria
e) Abbasids
f) Ottomans

Paper II is a bit complicated
Muslims in Spain and Africa.

Now, here you have to keep in mind that Spain was first conquered by the Syrian Umayyads, that is, Walid I, hence you have to repeat this topic for paper II. Check pg 446 in Mazhar-ul-Haq's A Short History of Islam 2nd edition. All the pgs no. mentioned below refer to this book.

Now let's go to Africa (Egypt included)
i) Egypt was first conquered in Hazrat Omar's (II Orthodox Caliph) reign by Amr ibn al As.

ii) North Africa was first conquered in Hazrat Uthman's reign by Abdullah bin Abi Sarh. Check pg 303 same book as above.

iii) Further parts of North Africa (Morocco and Algeria) were conquered under Muawiya I of the Syrian Umayyads by Uqba bin Nafe who then founded the city of Qayrowan. Pg 407

iv) North Africa was reconquered in the reign of Abdul Malik of the Syrian Umayyads in 698. pg 431

that's it for the Umayyads' mysterious reappearance in paper II. Let's go to the Abbasids now.

the Syllabus includes:
"Muslim achievements in Natural and Social Sciences:
Schools of Baghadad, Spain and Iran, Muslim contribution to History, Science. Medicine and other branches of human civilization.

Muslim Arts
Muslims' contribution in architecture, music, painting, handicrafts, pottery, calligraphy, etc.

The Abbasid Caliphs played a major role in advancing Muslim science and arts so revise certain portions of the Abbasid section for paper II specifically:
Mansur coz he founded Baghdad, Harun and Mamun coz of their patronage of science, arts etc.

I'm planning to skip the Syrian Umayyads part completely for paper I and covering it from paper II's perspective, that way only the Abbasids section will have to be revised for both papers.

I hope that helps.

Alyosha is right...
paper 1 deals with civilizations at the dawn of islam, Prophet's era (3 questions are important: Prophet Muhammad PBUH as a peacekeeper,,,teachings of the Prophet (PBUH)...His Sufferings and those of his companions), Rashidun Caliphate (Questions about First 2 caliphs are usually asked,,charachter and achievement of Abu Bakr (RA) and Umar (RA)...Ridda wars and role of Abu Bakr (RA)...Military Campaigns undertaken by Umar (RA)...Umar (RA) as pioneer of welfare state) Umayyad regime (central and provincial structure...causes of downfall) Abbasid dynasty ( literaryand scientific progress during abbasid era..revenue system of Abbasids...Haroon Rashid and mamun rashid)..occasionally questions about ottomans..tanzimats etc.. miscellaneous (kasb-i-hallal...al muwatta etc

paper 2
Umayyad spain (Abdur Rahman 1..abdur rahman 3rd... philosophy in spain,3 main philosphers...architecture of spain, 3 buildings (alhamra, mosque of cordoba, generalife, al zahra)..emergence of taifa states..role of muslims in western renaissance
North Africa....(events ,causes of conquest and consequences..)
Ottomans and turkey..(Muhammad 1...suleman,the law giver...causes of fall of ottoman empire..tanizimat (kinda overlap with paper 1)..Kamal Ataturk Reforms...
contemporary affairs....causes of downfall of muslims..clash of civilizations..

I second Alyosha. He is absolutely right to define the topics of both the papers.

Default Philosophers in Spain

1. Ibn Bajja
2. Ibn Tufayl
3. Ibn Rushd

These three are specific to Spain. Ibn Khuldun on the other hand was born in Tunis, Africa (1332) so technically he's not included in the philosophers from Spain. And I believe the above three philosophers are important enough to be mentioned with the exclusion of Khuldun if the question is specifically about "three philosophers in Spain."
But if the question is general, that is, "Philosophy in Spain" I would include Khuldun because History books tend to include him in this section.
