Lectureship test conducted by SPSC does contain questions from the Jahillya period, Prophet at Makkah, Madina, the pious caliphate period (40) years, the Ummayads, the Abbasids, the Fatimids, the Mughals and so on. So as far as the question paper pattern of lectureship (Islamiat) is concerned, study of Islamic History and Culture helps get command on Islamiat MCQ's, though not 90 percent.

The best material on Northern Africa can be found in 'Preaching of Islam' by Sir Thomas Arnold .. You can download the PDF of this book from link given by 'fReddY' in the post above .. Chap 4 and 11 deal with African conquests and specifically in the West coast and East coast .. The areas covered within these chapters will be enough ..

Regards ..

start the conquest of N.Africa from the Caliphate of Hazrat Umar and write the events that followed after this epoch.

write till it is required.it will be specefied otherwise write until the end of Abbasid's era conquests

causes of conquest : various but write as 1.strategic :it was door to Spain etc
2.economic activity in N.Africa : trade,agriculture, rivers,
3.propagation of Islam
4.need of African residents : they were indulged in ommoral practices
and the list goes on...

consequences : 1.economic boost 2.islamic values were incorporated in the roots of Africa from ther on 3.exchange of civilizatian's moores : for ex: islam raised the status of tenants.
4.militarily invasion proved to be fruitful.more weapons which the Muslims of Arabia had not laid hands to it,were taken into their artillery

a few more
some negative outfalls: 1.extravagancy 2.political dissensions 3.difficulty for the centre to look after the vast territory

i hope it is clear and will help u out on this

Islamic History requires around 40 - 50 days for a good preparation .. I'm not fond of studying by hours but if you study it topic by topic the aforementioned time period will be enough ..
