Should a naive to Islamic history & culture read some good history books of prominent writers in Urdu to have a profound base and good analytical skill in attempting the paper ?

You should go for recomended books by seniors. They are good and easy to understand. Like A short History of Islam by Mazhar Ul Haq, History of Arab of Hitti. Dnt waste your time while reading urdu books when you have to write in english at the end. Conversion will b tough.
