Anyone please show me what the meaning of first line The novel of Jane Austen ' Pride and prejudice' THAT is "It is a truth universally acknowledge that a single man in possession of a good fortune must me in want of a wife"
What does it mean ? ? |

You have not written the statement as it is.
It means that a fortunate man (one having wealth) will want to have a beautiful woman. The other way around it means that a beautiful woman would always be in search of a wealthy man. |

In the very first sentence of the novel Jane Austen reveals one of the major themes of pride and prejudice. This sentence introduces the central theme of marriage.. Irony is also introduced in this opening sentence. Literal meaning of the line is: everyone knows that a single wealthy man is looking for a wife. Ironically, sentence means: everyone knows that a single wealthy man will be pursued by women who want to be his wife.
