Well, the most obvious theme in the novel is the destruction caused by the British colonizers in India. The ill-treatment of the natives by the Britishers is also obvious. There is also an obvious mistrust between the Colonizers and the Colonized (and naturally so too). The issues, which arise when multiple cultures interact with each other so as the culture of the minority is forced on the people belonging to dominant culture of the society, are also discussed. Apart from cross-cultural relation, the relations of individuals (especially the friendships between Anglo-Indians) are also discussed and nature of relationships can also be a theme of the novel.
Regards
