SALAMZ BROTHER.....

Well i recently have passed my masters english literature......as far as my knowledge suggests...there are only and only symbols in heart of darkness......the novel is marvellously given the light of symbolic interpratation......there are countless......the thing is you need to have a symbolic eye to attempt this most important question.

1. First of all just introduce conrad as a symbolist

2. Give a glance in the light of given symbols

3. Highlight all the symbols you find that they are indicating the storyline......believe me novel is too easy to attempt......i got really handsome marks in this subject......InshAllah you will get too

4. Ok let me tell you the trick to attempt the symbolism......i did the same......first of all you need to remember the illuminating things which you think are giving hint to tell the reader that this novel is all about darkness and darkness prevails all the way......you need to attempt the symbols very simply like you start your question......following are the symbolic interpratations by the pen of conrad......

Place......showing darkness
Characters......too gloomy showing darkness
Surrounding
Things
Dialouges

Plot of the novel.........believe me if you adopt this way the paper checker will give you handsome marks......he would get to know that you have gone through the novel very thoroughly......its my approach and it worked two successful years by the Grace of Allah......try to give a mature treatment to the questions

All the best to you......I hope I may be helpful letting you know one single word of help......Best Regards!

Mr Safdar, great to see that my post did have some healthy impact on you. But I can't help disagreeing with you on the point that a student has too much to do just clearing his examination so that he doesn't have time to read it only for the sake of reading literature or that he should do it after his MA. The entire syllabus of MA English hardly takes more than two months to go through and prepare for examination - that is, both the part I AND part II syllabus. I strongly think that the MA English syllabus should be at least quadrupled. So much for the lack of time for MA English students! Also, I have seen people - I won't brag about myself - who read literature just for the sake of it, never caring about the exams, and these are the ones that get the highest marks! Of course there are exceptions to this but I can give you even more exceptions of those whose only goal was to clear "the papers" but were never able to do it.

Best,
Deviant

For the first question u have a complete grasp on text. Atleast u must read it 10-15 times in ur due course i know text of othelo and galelio galeli is bit long but u have to go through.
Then comes the power of ur imagination. The more ur imaginative , the more ur likely to get good score.Dont follow books follow ur imagination if u think that u can explain things differently as mentionedd in the books, go on but u have to be very argumentative in ur explanation.
IN exxplanation pay heed to following things ...

creation
novelty
relvency and one thing i must add

make ur sentences readable and comprehensible it is not you who r goona check ur paper
