Default Prose and Classical Poetry

Dear Brother

i am very happy to see your comment about your studies and you have told me that you are going to start Donne and Bacon. in this regard i want to give you a sincere suggestion. you should read in prose paper Gulliver's Travel, Culture and Imperialism, Redress of Poetry and Russell because these writer are simple and their question are simple too. but in the connection of Bacon there will be lot of problem that you have to face because bacon is a writer with scattered ideas on the one hand while on the other his work is ancient type and hard to understand. hope you can understand. now i am going to tell you about Donne. Donne is a great poet in English literature and there are four or five question are sufficient for examination. such as, Donne as a love poet, donne as metaphysical poet, his conciets, and as religious poet. if you will prepair his these aforementioned questions then surely, you will clear your one question in paper one. while in regard of prose paper you, first of all , have to select your choice and then tell me about writer and about the apecific problem then i can help you in this regard too. if you have any kind of difficulty in Donne's regard then do not hesitate and tell me your specific problem i will tell you what you want to know. you have another choice too i am giving you my cell phone number in any matter you can consult me i will be very happy if you consider me able to help you.
hope you can understand well. my cell phone number is 03216445535

Default A discussion on Modern sensibility and the reasons we read literature

Mr Safdar, I do not really agree with you that Bacon is difficult writer especially when we compare him with the likes of Russel and Said. Moderns typically have a tendency to get very confusing simply because of the whirlwind "modern sensibility." You can find exactly the same thing in Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and that is why modern writers have resorted so frequently to symbolism since there are so many things running parallel that the theme itself is so hard to comprehend, let alone express in full concrete terms that it's almost impossible for moderns to remain simple. Take the example of "Jazz" where every second line is a different theme, simply because there is so much to say and the desire not to moralize, not to over-simplify so intense that at the end of the day the novel means different things to different people. Look at "Waiting For Godot".... maybe it is universal but it has a meaning that is very private to each and every individual. This again, is in sharp contrast to Bacon for example, where there is hardly any disagreement among the critics as to what he actually means - a clear sign of how less complicated he is.

The other point I noticed in the discussion above was that you guys are focusing merely on "clearing the paper." For God's sake, this is not why you are reading literature! Are you reading literature to get an M.A. degree? Please read literature for the pleasure of it - both its intellectual pleasure and the pleasure that comes from the music of words, the turns of phrases and most importantly the pleasure that you get from feeling an empathy with the writer and his creations. Read it for the pains of Oedipus, for the undeserved doom of Desdemona and Ophilia, and most importantly read it so you don't hate Iago but rather to try to feel empathy and understand him.

Hope you get my point.

Best,
Deviant

dear daviant,

first of all i am very happy to see you here in this English literature conversation and then you have described a lot about the aim of studying literature. if you read carefully the above text that has come to me from brightstar so as you have already understood and mentioned in your text that the main aim of telling thim about easy books to get a degree of English Literature. but you can think over it if a student starts reading literature for literature's sake and as you know a student has just two years to clear his exams but as you are going to describe that a man should study literature for literature sake and for pleasure. So, now please tell me can a person clear his degree according your suggestions?
As the matter of fact, if you are studying for degree then first of all you should clear your examinations and then the whole life is there to read various writers by heart and pleasure. when some one finishes his study with the regard of degree so then he can read it more deeply becuase the he knows that he has not to sit in any examinations.
As you have mentioned various characters and their sorrows and happinesses a free student can feel them easily when he carry on his studies in this regard. on the one hand i am totally agree with you but do not agree on the other because when i look farward and see the examination then i have or some other persons have to read the easily topic to win or achieve their goal.
Now, as you mentioned above, i also can feel the miseries and sorrows of Oedipus, helplessness of Desdemona, the cleverness of Iago, the misunderstand and then grief of Othello, the jealousy of Leonard, then innocence of Hermione, the helplessness of Tess, the wickedness and then repent of Arther, the hardships of Clym, the misfortune of Eustasi, the cleverness and tragedy of Wildeve, the magic of Milton, Shakespear, tragedy and sorrows of Hamlet, lot of Willylowman, the image of Hetty, true passion of Adam Bede, reputation of Belinda vs her chastity, fear and terror of Doctor Faustus, brutality of both aristocracy and revolutionaries in Tale of two cities, grief and aching pain of Keats, Nature by the vision of Blake, imagination of Colrigdge and many more....................................
but these all aforementioned activities can possible if you have some kind of ground as master in english literature because this gives you foundation to understand literature and if you understood it then you have lot of time to research and amazement in it.
hope you can understand what i mean to say. but i am very thankful to you because you have aroused my spirits and now i can meditate in this regard keenly. once again thanks dear Deviant
