NKM may be reliable because it is the choice of the majority. Famous is not bad; I liked it. Moreover, you have internet for every query. I also found Jahangir's books for MA English Literature Part-I & II satisfactory.

I don't think so. NKM appears to be collection of material collected from internet or other sources.

No, its not exam cram series. Its complete syllabus with separate books of Part-I and II. It covers the syllabus, but you should make extra efforts and collect material from internet or other sources to secure good marks.

I suggest you 'Norton Anthology of English Literature' volume 1 and 2. It will help you a lot but don't rely on one book only. You have to go through more books.

how many books are there in total for part 1 and part 2?

my advice would be don't cram.. just understand the text, read critical from NKM and then try to attempt a few Qs from the past papers on your own. M.A English is not about cramming.
moreover time management is very important in it try to attempt one Q in 40 mins

how long should the answers be to secure maximum marks
