History of English literature is regarded as a tough subject thats why I am in dire need of guidelines to nip it in the bud.I am going to write few names of the writers and you guys have to give me the one person that will kill two birds with one stone for me,means to give me the exact knowledge about literature history and also preparation for examination point of view.The names are listed below.
1: David Daiches
2:Compton Ricket
3:Legouise and Cazamian
4:John peck and Martian coyle
5:Ifal Evans

I suggest you to go for david daiches, although you will face difficulty in reading it for first time but it will increase your knowledge by giving you an insight of literary ages..

If you are a student of English Literature, I will suggest you the book of history of English Literature by B. R. Mullick.. He is an Indian author.. Kitab Mahal has published his book.. It is pretty slim n helpful, containing all the details..
For CSS and other competitive exams, David Daiches is the best option..

I must clear it that by examination I mean universty exam not css.Our teacher told us if you want to know the real histotry of english literature you sholud go for David daiches and if you want to get through the exams you should go for William .J.Long.still
