Question Need Help regarding Optional subject in M.A english part 2 (pu)

What is the best subject for a PRIVATE Candidate in Part II of M.A english from Punjab University?
1-Short Stories
2-Literature in English Around the World
3-Linguistics
4-Essay
The suggestion should be practical regarding it is a Private Student and shouldn't be totally MODEST as to think of a most 'Easy way out' kind.
Thank You

Has the course changed? It's "Literature in English Around the World" or "English Language Teaching"?

Never go for Essay.

Course is changed I guess, Sis. I receive the suggestion of choosing 'Essay' from everyone. But I am also not in its favor cause I am going to prepare myself and it sounds tricky kind of subject. Plus I've a tendency to go against the things which are traditional. But Sis, would you explain why you forbid it too? And whats your suggestion then? Should one go for 'Linguistics'?

In a multiple questions paper there is always a chance that you can pass. Even if one question goes wrong, the rest of the 4 can fetch marks. But what if you misinterpret an essay topic? Or if you do not have enough material to put on paper? One wrong step and you are doomed. If ELT is still included in the course, then ELT is the best option. No technical writing is required. Otherwise opt for short stories. Linguistic is not scoring in PU.

Ok, that's a fair enough objection (gonna use it in my speech against essay :-) ). Short Stories... Got it.
I am afraid teaching of english is no more valid, just the four subects above are the options. Literature in Eng. Around the world is on the pattern of American Lit of 1st part, having sections of Drama, Novel, Poetry... Seems lengthy.
Linguistics seems boring too... ( Grapes are sour)
