Kindly tell what is skimming and scanning and how can it be done. Give any example from any time.

To the best of my knowledge skimming entails going through a piece superficially, reading intro and conclusion to get the gist of the thing. Scanning on the other hand involves proper active reading.

These are reading strategies we use for speeding up our reading. In skimming you can read more in less time as it refers to look only for specific information or idea. Reading only 1st and last sentence you can get clear idea about the passage. However, scanning is to look only for specific fact or idea. For example, if we have to see the score of Afridi in score card, we will not read whole card but go for 5 or sixth number for we know he comes at this number.

Skimming refers to the process of reading only main ideas within a passage to get an overall impression of the content of a reading
selection while Scanning is a reading technique to be used when you want to find specific information quickly.
