i still have to study these topics but i think autonomy vs integration debate means the deliemma of whether gender studies be offered and studied as a seperate field or whether it should be merged in other subjects e.g in political science a chapter about contribution and behaviour of women in politics. Because there's an opinion that teaching gender studies seperate begets a sense of prejudice. while integrating the subject in other would be more beneficial
and status of g.s in Pakistan means what universities offer it what is the level and opinion about g.s please correct me if i m wrong |

Autonomy Vs. Integration Debate
Some quick points to know are: - The debate's aim was for directors of women studies projects in different universities to meet and assess the theories and practices. - It was important to include information from other demographics besides white, heterosexual able and young females. - Feminists opposed the idea of integrating the subject into mainstream higher studies curriculum citing the reason that the subject is still young and if integrated, it will not develop. - Autonomy had the appeal of independence and feminist scholars would not be answerable to anyone for the subject's content. |

Hey,
For the Status of Gender studies in Pakistan you could consult the article 'State of the Discipline of Women's studies in Pakistan' by Rubina Saigol it is available online under "Social Sciences in Pakistan: A Profile" by the Council of Social Sciences Pakistan (COSS). It focuses on Women Studies initially but in the proceeding chapters the focus shifts to women studies centres in universities etc. Regards, |
