Default Zoology...

Hi frendz,,

if anybody is confusd abt opting zoology then plz dont worry...
if u r blonging to pre-medical group then u might be having some basic
concepts of zoology...

just apply those concepts & go ahead...
i suggest u the book of MILLER & HARLEY.
This is very good book regarding all the questions askd in the exam of css.
U will be giving 2 papers of zoology on same day...

PAPER-1..(100 marks)

u will be facing all the questions from the chapter of classification
(phylum).
Gve 2 readings from MILLER & HARLEY..
& ratafy ths chapter from 1st yr pre-medical book of biology..
u will not miss even a single question...

PAPER-2..(100 marks)

there will be 5 parts in this paper....
Part-A----CELL BIOLOGY
Part-B----GENERAL PHYSIOLOGY
Part-C----GENETICS
Part-D----EVOLUTION
Part-E----ECOLOGY

U will be facing atleast 1 question from each of these parts...
Gve atleast 2 readings from MILLER & HARLEY,
& ratafy these chapters from 1st yr and 2nd yr pre-medical books of
Biology....

Thanks in advance..

well i agree that Miller and Harley is a very good book and pre-medical books provide u all the basic concepts but for good notes u have to look around, sometimes these books doesnt cover the questions asked in papers like i have seen that Miller and Harley, though touching almost every topic but certain imp.topics are not in detail......for this u have also to see which addition u r using.
regards

first of all i would like to correct my mistake "addition" which should be "edition".
the second thing is,u have to see the edition u r using.

for example as i m using the 5th edition( the most recommended one) in zoological studies, its genetics portion...the whole portion is not upto the mark, for this one has to consult a helping book,(atleast i m doing for details)as Miller and Harley is a bachelors level book.this edition does not have linkage and linkage relations, sex linked and sex influenced traits, nothing about clonning,no biogeochemical cycles in detail.while going through the reptiles i didnt find "biting mechanism in snakes".

i know there will be more topics which i have not yet explored.remember i m pointing out these topics on the basis of the edition.a person who is at home in zoology will not have any difficulty in preparation.but those who have nodding aquaintance with this subject should be guided which edition they have to consult. As far as my information is concerned,4th edition would be better. What u say?

i do agree that pre-med.books are helping alot in this regards.it is covering lots of topics which u dont find in Miller and Harley, and i m also not saying that Miller and Harley is not good book, personally i like it very much but i have a little objection with the way of praparation u have mentioned,

to read topics twice from Miller and Harley and "then" ratafy from pre-med books are much time consuming,u know, waste of time.

dont u think its better to make a list of topics required and ratafy them directly from required book, simple and easy.

regards,

the main books has already been mentioned by Mr.Asad.
haan u should see which edition of Miller and harley offers u more topics.4th or 5th.i have the fifth ed.pre-med books are very helpful.after that make a list of those topics that u dont find in these books, and make notes.it would be wonderful if u go to any library.here i will not recommend u any particular book because the basic facts are all the same in different books.u can consult khan Mohammad rafique's,Ilmi books are good, books on genetics and ecology.

salam
they do cover lot of syllabus.the problem with zoology is that its too lengthy and if you consult variety of books you can manage zoology pretty well.
books mentioned here are good.
do check indian authors books like behmra, verma etc.
for general questions esp check these books for chordates and invertebrates.
go through Fsc bio books for Mcqs.
