Default Examination of injured person

Q: DISCUSS THE OBJECTIVES OF EXAMINATION OF INJURED PERSON?

ANS: INJURED PERSON:
Injured person means a person who sustained injury as a result of criminal violence, accident etc.

OBJECTIVES OF EXAMINATION OF INJURED PERSON:
During the examination of wounds of injured person, which form the subject of medico legal inquiry, it should be guessed from wounds that whether the victim will remain alive or die; very great care should be exercised. If no opinion can be gathered in certain cases of injury, the person should be kept under observation and this fact be reported to the police. In cases in which injured person is likely to die from the effect of criminal violence then dying declaration should be recorded. In every case all observations should be recordedin writing at once in the accident register with appropriate sketches or diagrams. If possible, the photographs of the place should be taken before anything is touched and photographs taken of the various wounds with attach scale.

ACCIDENT REGISTER:

It is a register maintained in hospital, in which the details of examination of the injured person are recorded by the medical officer.
The entries therein should be made carefully, nothing should be erased there-from and all alterations should be initialed.
The particulars to be entered in accident register are as follow:-
Serial number.
Date, time and place of examination.
Name including father’s name of the injured.
Age.
Sex.
Occupation.
Address both of residence and office.
Brought by whom.
Two identification marks.
Dying declaration necessary or not.
Consent for examination.
Brief history of the case as alleged , beaten by whom, with what and where.
Detail description of the injury.
Opinion, simple/ grievious.
Remarks.
Signature of the medical officer.
