I. Do you recommend Muslim Law to someone who does not have a Law background?

II. How long will it take (in number of days) with time exclusively devoted to this subject to master it as per the requirements of the CSS?

III. If you compare it with International Law, is it more, or less technical?

IV. How do you attempt a Law question? How do you expand it? Isn't it kind of mathematical? How do you give it the story form in the CSS?

Answer any or all these queries please! Everyone. Not just 'seniors' or 'lawyers'

I also dont have law background and i have opted this subject. And yes i will recommend you to opt this..
I am preparing it from only aatir rizvi's book(but one book is not enough) and the topics are not taking so long...as per my strategy i complete only one topic in a day, but it depends that you can cover 2 topics in a day or more depends on your capability..
It is easy and is also technical..
I have not tried to attempt any qs yet

Anabiya do share your experience of answering questions when you reach that part. How do you expand an otherwise straightforward question about a law... an example here would be great...i.e. when you actually start going through past papers

Muslim Law is not difficult per se. There are few things which entail cramming (like Arabic terms and few other details) but it is interesting. I myself have a law background and I used to love Islamic Jurisprudence in my times ( though it was a bane for many). It is a piece of cake when compared to International Law (probably because I find cramming onerous and IL is all about cramming). Muslim Law is technical because it involes less cramming and more concept. IL is not that technical since it is more about cramming.

Well, the time required to prepare it will vary from person to person. With a law background and a penchant for Muslim law, I would still take some 15-20 days. For a novice, I think it should be nothing less than 20 days.

Demonstrative, at least 20 days? That's quite something. Anyway, you raise my sprirts with the rest of the points favouring the subject! : )

When I say 20 days, that implies 8 hours daily. If you can study for more than 8 hours without losing interest then you are going to ace it in 15 to 20 days. I suffer from attention deficit disorder and if you don't, I am sure you can do it in probably lesser number of days. At the end of the day, its the quality time we put in that matters.

I forgot to write in my last post how law questions should be answered. I think you have not gone through the books as yet or else you would have known that the books already have ample explanation.

Jurisprudence questions are theoretical and so are the law ones. However, you'll have to make up apposite illustrations and incorporate them in your answer while attempting law questions. As to the jurisprudence questions, the reference books will give you a good idea of how each topic is to be prepared.

Lets say the examiner asks you about Maslahah Mursalah or Public Interest.

Here is how you could attempt it,

1. Literal Meaning of Maslahah
2. Technical Meaning of Maslahah
3. Legal Authority for Maslahah
4. When Jurists take Recourse to Maslahah
5. Things to be Considered while Exercising Maslahah
6. Hajah and Zarurah
7. Difference of Opinion among the Four Imams
8. Objectives of Shariah are Based on Maslahah
9. Maslahah and its Application in the Contemporary World

Obviously you can add a lot more headings provided you don't run out of content (like I have in the example).

You'll see that most of the reference books for Islamic Jurisprudence follow the same pattern for each topic and over the course of time, you too will come to know about the ease of answering questions.

Coming to the law part, lets say the examiner asks you to critically analyze Muslim Families Law Ordinance 1961. Here is how you can go about it,

1. Introduction
2. Grandchild of Deceased Parent Made Legal Heir
3. Registration of Marriage Made Mandatory
4. First Wife's Knowledge about Husband's Second Marriage Made Prerequisite for Second Marriage
5. Arbitration Council
6. Essential Waiting Period for Divorced Couples

You can also add illustrations under each of these headings.

AGAIN, please consult the text books suggested by FPSC. I think Imran Ahsan Nyzee's book is available online on alsi series website. Tahir Mansuri's book is must for family law. For Islamic law of contract and business transactions, again go for Tahir Mansuri. For Islamic Jurisprudence, there is a book by Imran Ahsan Nyazee and one by Hussain Hamid Hassan probably. Select either of these and you are good to go.
