I am also interested in philosophy. But I feel philosophy is too vast and demanding a subject. To properly study philosophy and philosophical texts, much more effort is required than reading a few guide books and memorizing certain passages. In fact I think most philosophy books written by philosophers themselves aren't even recommended in the syllabus, just books summarizing their ideas. So maybe its better to study another subject where you are more familiar with the course. However, your philosophical knowledge may be vast, and in that case, go for it.
