All three references will give u score higher than 80.

Paper 2: History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell
The Story of Philosophy by Will Durant
Muslim Philosophy by M. Saeed Sheikh

These books will grant you 70 plus marks.
Sir how much time is needed to cover Philosophy if one has no prior background in this subject?
Also need guidance about Sharif's book. I have gone through its contents. It contain some parts and chapters that are not related to syllabus. Please enlist the contents that are needed to be studied from this book as well as from Russel's and Durant's books.

It will take one and a half months to two months to cover both papers. But this time span is to score 150 plus marks. Also U may study other subjects alongwith.

There is no need to consult M.M.Sharif. I didn't recommend u his hectic volumes.
Follow the paper pattern these years nd u wl find that u might attempt 3-4 Qs from portion of Western Philosophy.
And if there arises a need to attempt 1 Q from part of Muslim Philosophy, for it M.Saeed Sheikh wl serve the purpose.

Regardind ur last query, I presume its better to contact me . Here it wl be difficult for me to elaborate u each nd every topic.

I think it is hard to quantify time for preparation of philosophy.
I am sharing what i have perceived about the nature of subject it will be easy for you to analyse.
Paper I is rather simple, and less time taking especially for a student who has studied maths till FSc (this never implies that others who have not studied maths will be unable).
As far as Paper II is concerned, its syllabus is lengthy and time taking as it requires to digest thoughts and philosophies of different philosophers. Philosophy of every philosopher can be best comprehended if and only if you have a background knowledge about what the previous philosopher had said about a particular subject, so you will have to study it right from Socrates (500 BC) till modern philosophers.
Overall I will say philosophy is a very interesting subject. whether you have background or not is not a question to worry about. Time is enough you can do it.

I had analyzed the past papers of philosophy and observed that according to recent trend paper 2 contains pretty much portion of muslim philosophy as compared to western but in mcqs, there is more weightage of western philosophy so one need to cover both portions to fetch good marks.
Please tell me is there any comprehensive book available in market that contain all these topics so one may get the required contents photocopied from it? Also do we need to study some book to understand history of philosophy before moving towards muslim or western philosophy?

Dear i think the biggest difficulty for aspirants regarding philosophy is its subject material.
I can not specify any single book.
Burtrand Russels book is comprehensive, but is quite difficult initially. Secondly the primary source for Paper II preparation is internet, search relavet material from it.

I am here mentioning a website, this might help you. the link is as under

http://www.philosophypages.com/

Default whether to take philosophy or not?

Hello,
I am aspiring to appear for CSS soon and considering to opt for philosophy. However, I am disturbed by the lack of first-hand guidance on the subject. Moreover, I have observed in the passing list that hardly anyone takes philosophy. I have a background in british law (LLB) and politics and since I covered Jurisorudence (Western philosophers like Austin, Hobbes etc), the subject really interests me. Please tell me whether its a safe option that can get me a high score or I should reconsider it.
Waiting for a reply soonest,
Thank you.
