Strategy

if u ask me regarding my strategy and marks in philosophy..i would just say one thing>>>all the marking trend depend upon FPSC...they decide in which year the subject be given maximum marks and in which year the subject be plummeted to it,s lowest ebb...The same subject philosophy gave me 98 marks in both papers in CSS 2013...and the same subject rewarded me 131 in CSS 2014......so it is expected that in CSS 2015 philosophy will be again subjected to that inhumane manner of CSS 2013......

Dear friend, thank you for sharing your experience. If I recall correctly, the examiner focused on Muslim Philosophy in Paper II for the year 2013. I hadn't prepared it well.

Nevertheless, I scored an overall 142 due to the fact that I scored good in Paper I.

I would like to think that it depends on your preparation. Yes, the examiner might choose to ask strict marking, but there's a reason for that: testing your knowledge and analysis.

Dear Laiba,

I would recommend that you go for selective study for Paper II. I can help you out with Western Philosophy as I've yet to prepare Muslim Philosophy - it requires some cramming.

Dear Laiba,

In Western Philosophy, the following topics are expected:

1. Logical Positivism
2. Hegel and Marx
3. Pragmatism

You should also go through Phenomenology; a question on Sartre came last year. It's not expected to repeat this time but you never know.

Also you should have some knowledge about British Empiricism, Hume and Berkeley in particular and Henri Bergson (may come in Short Notes).

In Muslim Philosophy, the following topics are important:

1. Asharites and Mutazilites (V. Imp)
2. Ghazali and Ibn Rushd (V. Imp)
3. Ibn Sina (V. Imp)
4. Iqbal (V. Imp)
5. Sir Syed
6. Shah Waliullah

Also go through Ibn Khaldun.

As for the study strategy: one can prepare Paper I in 7-10 days.
For Paper II it depends on one's interest and learning curve in the subject. Do one topic per day and it can be done easily.

*Also prepare MCQs from the Past Papers. You can easily get 16-18 marks in MCQS alone!

For any guidance you may contact via email or Skype.
