@saba mehmood
You may attempt paper in either Urdu or English (excluding the portion which is required to be attempted in Arabic). Sometimes it is explicitly mentioned on the paper to attempt the paper in Urdu or English. Even if it is not mentioned on the paper, you still have option of attempting the paper in either medium. |

point disagreeing with you. My point was that those notes alone are not sufficient. One needs to have some sort of know-how of Arabic language and grammar too. Besides these notes need to be complemented with material from internet and other sources . but one very acute problem is that internet is not much helpful in the preparation of period except then modern period. you have very rightly said that material about modern writers like Taufiq ul Hakeem , Taha Hussain etc is in detail on internet . Ahmad Hasan Zyat's book I did not follow just read few topics and then left that. I should have read that thoroughly. Quote:
Discussion with Usman has proved a egret help to me too. The tradition which is being followed that is one is free to attempt Question either of the two English or Urdu. As nothing is mentioned in the paper that which medium be followed. However, as English is the medium of css examination , it is better and secure to attempt the paper in English. Last year a rumor was in air that FPSC has taken it into consideration that students be restricted to attempt the paper in English. Therefore in order to avoid any bad situation one ought to prepare and attempt the paper in English barring the translation , short questions and the question of short essay. one ought to be secure , when preparing it in Urdu or English is almost all the same. Ahmad Hassan Zyat's book is available in Urdu.

Those notes are helpful . But Hafiz Arshad's notes should be used as primary source . Because they have been made specifically for css aspirants.

Brother ! I don't have any strong background of Arabic. I did had Arabic in Graduation but that was very very basic and easy and had nothing at all to do with Arabic language or grammar. The second thing, yes we can attempt translation questions in Urdu and the rest of theoretical questions in English. This is the practice which is being followed by each and every aspirants taking exam with Arabic as an optional subject.
