EDITORIAL...max leaner defines it
'editorial is a comment on those trends which lie at the core of daily occurences.'
to clarify further, editorial is written on the news, events, accidents etc that have happend recently,,just before the day of publication of newspaper. They don't contain any name of the writer because they are written on the behalf on the newspaper.
You may see 3 editorials written daily in DAWN .
COLUMNs are published on editorial pages which are auxiliary to editorials. They contain the name of their authors.
FEATURE is an objective essay written on some abstract topic.

If anybody could share their notes, that would be just great.

Second, I wanted to ask:

Since many newspapers depend largely on the government for advertisments, can we say that the policy of the newspapers is often slanted towards the government i-e there is biasedness? Please discuss what do you think about it, thank you.

First, it's not possible for me to post all the material here.
Second, it's the very function of newspapers to publish ads whether the client is public or private org., so we can't say that the newspapers dont follow objectivity in their work. However, we can say that the extra funding of newspapers by the govt to publish its ads has eclipsed the private ads as they cant afford the heavy charges..

Aliinaa Tuesday, January 13, 2015 07:25 PM

No I was not talking about the private or public advertisments but in terms of the projection of views. The press depends on the government for the purchase of news print. Similarly, many newspapers also depend upon the government for the advertisments and this source of income can be turned off or on at the discretion of those in power. This often puts the editors or journalists at an awkward situation where he/ she has to maintain objectivity and please the funders or financers as well. What do you think about that?

Second, please also shed light on the role of advertising.

Thank you.
