The main theme of this question is to define abnormal behaviour in different ways OR how to distinguish abnormal behvaiour from Normal behaviour OR in how many an abnormal behaviour can be diagnosed.

The different ways in which abnormal behaviour can be defined are

1. Statistical Definition : Frequently occuring behaviour would be considered normal, and behaviour that is rare would be abnormal.

2. Social Norm Deviance Another way of defining Abnormal behviour is to see that something goes against the norms and standards of society in which the individual lives

3.Subjective discomfort

4.inability to function normally

define and explain all of the above in detail with examples

and in the last you will have to give the Final definition of abnormal behaviour.

Regards

@silent volcano

thanks for guiding...bt the book m studing (feldman) has two topics regharding this question..One is approches/models to abnormal behaviour and The 2nd Is present elements to distinguish normal.b from Abnormal...so i m jst bogged down ..i think both through both the above topics v can explain it but which will be the best and relitive...

from Feldman

Chapter: PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS

topic : defining abnormality has to be written in detail

and the perspectives on abnormality should also be discussed.

in feldman book the answer to this question lies on page 531-536.

@Yousufzai

She is right. Criteria for abnormality is given in the Robert Feldman's book.

CHAPTER = 16 (Psychological Disorders)

Page = 537

Abnormality as deviation from the average;
Abnormality as deviation from the ideal;
Abnormality as a sense of subjective discomfort;
Abnormality as the inability to function effectively; and
Abnormality as a legal concept.

This is what I found. You are also suggested to google your question on the google.

Is 2011 your first attempt? If not what were your optionals?

i also did not have any knowledge of psychology.It depends on the person.In psychology different theories are involved.In nutshell,it is a lengthy subject.

For beginners,Understanding Psychology by Feldman is the Best book.You can also consult Zimbardo's book as it has been recommended by many members.

For good preparation 1 to 1.5 month if you are a beginner having no background in this subject.
