Lightbulb Need Urgent Help regarding Psychological Schools

Greeting everyone! I have started studying psychology. The first topic that i want to cover is Schools Psychology. Although, i have been studying many books including Zimbardo, Feldman and Intro to Psy. by Atkinson & Hilgard for past five days but I am unable to finish this section.
The problem that i am facing here is that I know about all the school and what they stand for but i have been unsuccessful in solving past 10 year questions from it. For Example
  • 2002: How BEHAVIOURISM differs from earlier schools of psychology? What were the main objections of the Gestalt Psychologists about Behaviorists?
Now her I know that behaviorism is different from structuralism, functionalism and Gastalt as former states that our behavior is moulded by our environment but i DONT know the objections of Gastalt psychologist about it!
  • 2003: What makes STRUCTURALISM stand out as different from other schools and how it fits in recent trends in psychology? Discuss.
Similarly i dont know how structuralism fits in the recent trends in psychology? and by asking to differential structuralism from other school, is the examiner asking to do comparison with historical school or current prospects or both. How should I answer a question like this?? i m utterly confused
  • 2004: Describe the aims and methods of STRUCTURALISM and FUNCTIONALISM.
I know the philosophy of Structuralism but what does examiner mean by Aims and Methods???
  • 2005: Comment on RECENT TRENDS IN PSYCHOLOGY, as viewed by BEHAVIOURISTS.
I know what behavioral school stands for but I couldnt find the RECENT TRENDS IN PSYCHOLOGY, as viewed by BEHAVIOURISTS.
  • 2006: Comment on RECENT TRENDS IN PSYCHOLOGY, duly supported by factual data.
By recent trends, does he mean the currents 6 perspectives or something else?? and i wonder where could i get hold of Factual data as its not in the chapters of any of my 3 books

Similar are these questions which are big question mark for me albeit i have gone through the respective chapter of all 3 books
  • 2006: Comment on RECENT TRENDS IN PSYCHOLOGY, duly supported by factual data.
  • 2001: Critically evaluate different schools and systems of psychology, Discuss their status in Contemporary Psychology

I would request the member here to please draw a sketch out line for the above question and if possible then try to explain a bit as well. And I would be thankful to members like Deadly, doctor, DPO Larkana, Dr. Janxeb and other worthy member if they could please advise an effective strategy to complete Psychology satisfactorily with economy of time

Thanking you in anticipation
Dr. S.M.Ali

@dr.ali zaidi
as you have read this chapter, move on to next one.
once you finish all syllabus you will be in a better position to answer these questions.
recent trends includes current perspectives and application of psychology in various field e.g organizational psychology, sports psychology etc
it will take much time for you to cover the syllabus if you go after past papers.
on average this kind of approach takes more than one and a half month to cover psychology.
to save time you have to be selective but study all syllabus.focus more on selected ones.
there is no shortcut to success.
best of luck

First of all please accept my gratitude for helping me out. I m trying to prepare psychology from the syllabus provided by FPSC. I have taken out 20 days to get over with part I. Part I consists of following divisions.
  1. Definition and scope of Psychology: Psychology as a science of behaviour, Schools and Systems of Psychology, Recent trends in Psychology.
  2. Nervous System: Structure and functions of cells, Central and Peripheral Nervous System, Endocrine system
  3. Learning: Conditioning - classical and operant Reinforcement, Avoidance conditioning, Extinction, Discrimination learning, imprinting, Theories of learning, Verbal learning, Probability learning, Concept leaning, Perceptual learning, Transfer and interference, Motivational factors in learning, Readiness and individual differences in learning
  4. Nature of motives and emotions: Homeostasis, Biogenic and social Motives, Measurement of human motivation. Theories of motivation - Maslow, Lewin and Freud, Theories of emotion Role of endocrine glands, frustration and conflict.
  5. Nature of perceptual organization Perception of distance, Movement, Space. Depth, colour, Perceptual constancy, Effect of learning and motivation on perception. Senses viz. vision hearing and other senses, Perception and sensation, Determinations of perception (Needs, attitudes, sets, values, personality traits, emotional states, suggestion etc.).
  6. Nature and determinants of personality Factors in development of personality, Theories of personality, trait and types, Freudain, Neo Freudain, Murry, Allport, Cauel, Types of personality tests and their rationale.
  7. Socialization: Society and personality, Formation of opinions and attitudes, Prejudice.
  8. Structure and Functions of Group, Role status relations, Group norms, Group solidarity, Intergroup tension, International tension.

Now my plan is to give an understanding to all the sections by going through the books but my emphasis is more on the virtual university lectures. once i'd be done with the understanding part, then i'll prepare the question from 5 years. Out of 8 sections, i'd probably be leaving 2 to conserve the time and energies. Do you agree with this strategy of mine?? plus which 2 sections should i skip??
Plus tell me If you think that i should be going through all 3 books as well as the lectures of VU and handout or i should limit my study.

Regards

Dr.S.M.Ali

you can skip these 2 ones but i repeat at least read it because trends are changing.
Socialization: Society and personality, Formation of opinions and attitudes, Prejudice.
Structure and Functions of Group, Role status relations, Group norms, Group solidarity, Intergroup tension, International tension.

i have not gone through virtual university lectures so i don't know about it.consulted at start, later left it
remember one thing date sheet is one of the most important factor beside preparation
books k liye me ek bat he kaho ga:
"utna philao jitna exams me sambal sako"
do cover all topics and papers. now you have time to cover everything but in exam you will hardly have any time for revision.zimbardo and feldman are enough as many aspirants and csps recommend these two.
i cannot say anything about time, because everyone has his/her own capability and guidance.
one more thing if you notice in past papers is that each questions are asked on same topics but approaches are different.
i had discussed past papers in another thread of paper 1 to some extent while i was preparing.check out this link:

http://www.cssforum.com.pk/css-optio...sychology.html

i don't have time nowadays so i cannot post outlines or details.get out of this myth too that it is a scoring subject,it can be a real nightmare.get well prepared because trends are changing in all subjects
well best of luck

Thanx a ton once again. Actually I m opting for this subject because its scoring as well as interesting. I have been bitten by Pol. Sc. so don't want to go for it again. I have been bestowed with success from Almighty in 2009 attempt however this time i want to improve my group. Pray for me!
I have started my prep properly and I'll be consulting you in future as well.
