Dear Yousafzaii,

I was looking for something similar a couple of months ago, for my research topic _ .............Leadership Style and its relation with level of Staff’s motivation in a Bank.

Anyhow, I couldn’t find anything helpful in Psychology books and on internet there was nothing authentic that could be used in a research. We, our group, came across a questionnaire in our book Principles of Management by Richard Daft. The questionnaire source in actual is Lyman W. Porter, Organizational Patterns of Managerial Job Attitude (New York: American Foundation for Management Research, 1964)

The questionnaire helps to measure the Level of motivation in staff (in your case any respondent). It measures five variables which total up to determine level of Motivation.

The variables are;

• Security
• Social
• Esteem
• Autonomy
• Self-Actualization

The questionnaire is;

1. _____ The feeling of self steam a person gets from being in the job.

2. _____ The opportunity for personal growth and development in the job

3. _____ The prestige of the job inside the company (that is, regard received from others in the company)

4. _____ The opportunity for independent thought and action in the job

5. _____ The feeling of security in the job

6. _____ The feeling of self fulfillment a person gets from being in the position (that is, the feeling of being able to use one’s own unique capabilities, realizing one’s potential)

7. _____ The prestige of the job outside the company (that is, the regard received from other not in the company)

8. _____ The feeling of worthwhile accomplishment in the job

9. _____ The opportunity in that job to give help to other people

10. _____ The opportunity in that job for participation in the setting of goals

11. _____ The opportunity in that job for participation in determination of methods and procedures

12. _____ The authority connected with the job

13. _____ The opportunity to develop close friendship in the job

How to interpret the results;

Find below variables and the question no.s. These questions add up to form score for every variable, adding score of these variables will give you level of motivation of the respondent. Now its upto the user of this questionnaire how the scores are set or made comparable.

Security 5
Social 9 and 13
Esteem 1, 3 and 7
Autonomy 4, 10, 11 and 12
Self- Actualization 2, 6 and 8

I hope it helps.
