Default behaviour therapy

BEHAVIOR...................a genetic term covering acts,activities,responses,reactions,movements,proc esses,operations etc..............DICTIONARY OF PSYCHOLOGY

BEHAVIOR THERAPY

behavior therapy is in the words of one of its principal proponents"the use of experimentally established principles of learning for the purpose of changing un-adaptive behavior.disturbed behavior is conceived as the reluctant of learning...its modification therefore requires relearning.if one can manipulate the environmental conditions which shape and maintain behavior,,,then one can alter behavior in men as well as in animals and through the same general principles.

BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION>>........the process of changing(modifying)a person's behavior.

this kind of the technique is used to replace the disturbed behavior by the favorable behavior................this is the wide use thecnique which is suitable to change the behavior of the person.

TECHNIQUES USED IN BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

(1)....systematic desensitization
(2)assertive training
(3) aversion conditioning
(4)the token economy
(5)modelling

systematic desensitization
this is the best known and the most widely used application of WOLPE's reciprocal inhibition principle for the treatment of the phobic reactions.it is based on the simple principle that one can not be both relaxed and the anxious at the same time. consequently,if increasingly more anxiety-provoking stimuli are experienced while the patient(client)is in a deep relaxed state, the relaxation responses will be substituted for the anxiety responses.he will thus be desensitized to the original anxiety-inducting stimuli.
in this kind the therapist taught the patient(client) to be relaxed and then afterwards the process of anxiety hierarchy is created.its ranging from the moderate to the extreme level

ASSERTIVE TRAINING

a variety of techniques have been used by the behavior therapists to help people overcome social anxieties and inhibitions and to aid in the development of greater inter personal skills and more effective and spontaneous social behaviors.thus practicing more assertive behavior in the situations a which formerly aroused anxiety and inhibition reduce the strenght of the anxiety related response.

in this way a psychologist used the rehearsal, psychodrama role playing and social modelling.

AVERSION CONDITIONING

this technique is mainly used for the effort to eliminate addiction and destructive or deviant behaviors.

THE TOKEN ECONOMY...a form of the behavior therapy in which a therapeutic environmental is established based on the use of token as a secondary reinforces.such economies have been introduced into the mental institutions educational programs with the problem child and the like they operate according to three basic principlesa) the client is reinforced with tokens for appropriate behavior(b)the number of the tokens for a response is proportionality the requirement of the response(e.g more work and more tokens),,,(c)the tokens may be cashed for real ,value, rewards.

MODELLING.....................particularly for children an important part of learning is based on watching and imitating others...its a kind of the catharsis for the client...in this regard they imitate the persons whom they like the most and wanted to become like them...
