Dear All Seniors

If anyone could outline the Sociology course for CSS with importance topics that are not to be missed. i will be grateful to him

SOCIOLOGY

1. Individual, Culture and Society : Individual as a social product,
The variety of social forms, Methods of socialization, Ethnocentricism,
Norms and Values, Cultural Patterns, Varieties of sub-cultures.

2. Sociological Theory : The sociological perspectives—
Evolutionary, order and conflict, Evolutionary Theorists : Ibn-i-Khaldun
Spencer and Tannis, Order Theorists: August Comte, Emile Durkheim,
Max Weber, Conflict Theorists : George Hegel, Karl Marx, Lewis Coser,
Mills.

3. Methods of Sociological Research : Research Design, Surveys,
Participant Observation, Experiments, Case Studies.

4. Social Interaction : Significance of social classes, Forms of social
classes—Tribes, Biradaris, Castes, Classes and Feudal system in Pakistan,
Social Mobility—nature of social mobility, Mobility determinants in
Pakistan society, Social immobility, Culture in poverty.

5. Social Control : Mechanisms of social control—internal and
external means of social control, Alienation, Integration—integrative
patterns in Pakistani Society.

6. Social and Cultural Change and Social Policy : Processes of
Social and Cultural Change—discovery, invention, diffusion, Factors in the
rate of social and culture change, Incentives and inhibitions to social and
cultural change in Pakistan Social planning and directed social and cultural
change.

7. Community : The rural community, Traditional Characteristics of
rural life, The urban community, Rural—Urban convergence, Urbanism,
Future of cities in Pakistan.

8. Social Institutions : The nature and genesis of institutions, the
process of institutions, Functions and Trade of Social Institutions. Family,
Religion, Educational, Economic and Political Institutions.

9. Social Problems in Pakistan : Population Growth, Demographic
Transition : Deviant Behaviour, Institutionalised evasions, social conflicts,
internal and international Migration, Aging, Drug abuse, Prostitution,




Well for selective prepartion of this subject i would recomend you to consult these tow books.

1-Sociology by JJ Baluch(PSP):This is a short book exclusively written for CSS.

2-Jahangeer Publications:Exam cram series:this contain 20 important questions along with MCQs.

u should read sociology syl:
best book is is "An introduction to sociology" by javed jiskani baloch.
& "principles of sociology" by schdeva & gupta. u must solve Mcqs of past papers of sociology as wel.

In light of past papers important areas of sociology are:-

Chapter:- (Social Problems in Pakistan: Population Growth. Demographic Transition: Deviant Behaviour, Institutionalised evasions, social conflicts, internal and international Migration, Aging, Drug abuse, Prostitution. Smuggling, Illiteracy and Poverty)....Question that r being asked frm this particular chapter are:-

In 2009:- Define the term “Social Problem”. Discuss smuggling a social problem in a society.

In 2008:- Migration from rural to urban area is on the rise in Pakistan. Discuss all the positive and negative points at the origin and destination keeping theory of migration into consideration. (20)

In 2008:- Write short notes on following
b) Internal migration.

In 2007:- Write a comprehensive note( with an outline)
(d)Demographic transitions identifying the stage in Pakistan.


In 2006:- rural-Urban migration is causing labour-drain from rural communities. What problems this situation is creating in the labour market of rural communities. As a subject scholor, what solutions do you suggest to minimize these problems? Discuss with examples.

In 2006:- write short notes on the following:
a) Drug Abuse

In 2004:- How you can define poverty and what strategies the govt of Pak has adoptedto alleviate poverty and also discuss the role of NGo's to address the issue of poverty.

In 2004:- What are the social effects of deviance and do crime-fighting programmes including imprisonment work in Pak.

In 2003:- Write short notes on the following:
(a) Aging of Population

In 2003:- The young criminals have been on the increase in Pakistan for the last many years in jail. Write down critically the main factors .associated with Juvenile delinquency.


Next Chapter:- Sociological Theory : The sociological perspectives- Evolutionary, order and conflict, Evolutionary Theorists : Ibn-i-Khaldun Spencer and Tannis, Order Theorists: August Comte, Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Conflict Theorists :George Hegel. Karl Mars. Lewis Coser, Mills.


In 2009:- Karl Marx “Theory of Labour” Discuss in detail.

In 2008:- Karl Marx has discussed labour theory of value in detail. What do you understand by that theory; write your answer in detail. (20)

In 2007:- In the light of theoretical perspectives (Hegel, Marx, Coser,Mills) explain the true nature of conflict. Discuss the various forms of pervasive conflict in Pakistan Society.

In 2006:- what is the role of C.W. Mills in the development of Frankfurt school of conflict theory? Where and how he differs from his contemporaries? Discuss with evidence.

In 2005:- What are different theories about origin of society? Discuss them in detail.


In 2004:- Write clearly. What major Contributions did Karl Marx and Ibn-i-Khaldun make to our understanding of the social experience?

In 2003:- Durkheim wrote extensively on the suicide. Critically examine his views about Suicide.


Next chapter:- Methods of Sociological Research: Research Design, Surveys, Participant Observation. Experiments, Case Studies.

In 2009:- Discuss the term Social Research and explain the important steps of inducting social research.

In 2008:- What type of survey would you use to study young criminals? Defend the logic og choice in detail. (20)

In 2007:- A research design is a roadmap for investigation. Discuss the major decisions a researcher makes in designing a study. While discussing decisions, identify a research problem with reference to which the designinghas been envisaged.

In 2006:- What is a research design? What type of research design can used for studying the problems of drug addiction/HIV/AIDS in Pakistani society? Discuss with examples.

In 2005:- Discuss the importance of social research for the study of Sociology. Explain the steps to be taken in social Research Process.

In 2004:- Why is research essential to the scientific enterprise and what are the principal theoretical methods available to Sociologists in the study of social life? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each.

In 2003:- When is survey research appropriate? What type survey research would you use to study heroin users. Defend the logic of your choice.

According to the trend of past papers these areas r v imp,but 4 Css u hav to go through the other chapters as well......so best of luck
