A very nice book 'Sociology by Shankar Rao' is much better than the ones in the sticky thread.(That is also recommended by a csp ,not on the forum though)I'm saying this cuz I've all these following books,

Sociology by Shankar Rao (Written in Indian society's context)
Sociology by Horton and Hunt (American Society's context)
Pakistani Society by Dr Iqbal Choudary (Pakistani Society's context)
Sociology-An Introduction by S.M.Shahid

Sociology by Horton and Hunt is no doubt a nice book, but Shankar Rao's book is blend of 'Horton and Hunt' and some other books. He has given many quotations from good writers (including Horton & hunt). All the theories and theorists are given in this book.Alongwith it consult
Pakistani Society by Dr Iqbal Choudary cuz it deals with Pakistani society.

"Sociology-An Introduction by S.M.Shahid (Anser Zaidi)" isn't much impressive. If u get the two recommended books you won't need to consult it.

Thanks. But tell me are these books enough i mean is there no need
to buy other books.I have searched all threads and i have come to
know that mostly people have suggested these books. But some people have
suggested other books like one by Abdul Hameed Taga and another book
by Javed Jiskani. What's your opinion regarding these books are they
worth buying or these four books as mentioned above are enough.
Thanks.

I think you don't need to buy 4 books for Sociology.Just two books will be enough.
1-Sociology by Shankar Rao
2-Pakistani Society by Dr Iqbal Choudary

These books cover the whole syllabus. For objective part you'll have to buy a separate book.

I have no idea about these books.People consult different books to make their notes unique. If you also intend so ,do check these books too.

A mixture of Paul.B Horton and sociology by Muhammad Ali would assist u in more effective manner.....Horton for general understanding and Muhammad Ali for specific review of Pakistani society...

This is what I have done for ma CE 2010.....Best of luck!!

Thumbs down books are available in lahore

@aliz_khanz

dear u can get pirated edition of horton and hunt for just repees 200 from ilmi book deput and other shops of urdu bazar.

2ndly i suggest u to read SOCIOLOGY: A DOWN TO EARTH APPROACH
u can get this book photocopied from p.u dept of sociology liberary. if there would be any hurdle give my refferevce to the liberary staff. they will inshallah help u.
study either of the above said books further u need to study graduate level book of sociology by Abdul hameed tagga. this book would help u understand sociology with refference to pakistan. dont be confused by choosing too many books but concenterate on one of these to get the conceptual understanding of the topics.

regards
